...the new series and the movie?
I doubt the movie will ever get off the ground. It's hard enough trying to keep the fandom together. There are a ton of movies listed on IMDB for 2008. A lot of them end up abandoned. Unless the admin has some updates for us, I don't see the movie ever seeing the light of day. At least we can confirm the DVDs. Maybe if we were thrown a bone, a lot of us would return. I haven't heard anything lately.
I doubt the film will get made, to be honest. |

I wouldn't go by what the IMDB says on that listing (nor what IMDB often says in general) -- films often have a tendency to get greenlit and fast-tracked into production, and can suddenly get slotted into a release-window with next to zero warning beforehand if a studio wants a particular "tentpole" badly enough. It could be as late as summer 2007, and we might end up seeing a Voltron flick given a "go" for filming and release in summer/fall 2008...very, very unlikely, but there's precedent for it. If Hollywood history teaches us anything at all, it's that -- more often than not -- projects like Voltron frequently end up on that endless Möbius strip of eternal development hell. That all said...again, and as a general life-rule, I'd still put more stock in what Twitchy the Vomiting Hobo has to say about the movie 'biz than the IMDB.
For a lot of us, though, it's all about the Old Skool -- the classic animé, and the DVDs. Though the current DVD sales figures certainly might help to "goose" the executives' opinions on the property as a feature film, and the potential audience base. If no other Voltron project ever gets made...I'll live. As long as we get these DVDs in full, that's all I truly want at the moment. Which isn't to say that I wouldn't support a new Voltron project if executed properly. Far from it. If done right, I'll certainly go to see a film, watch a new series, et cetera. If not, not. |
