I know Jetfire was based on the planes from Macross Robotech. The jefires are expensive on ebay. Anyone know the plane his was based on and should I consider getting a Robotech one instead?

First off, it is Skyfire, NOT Jetfire. Hasbro just does not know how to give a character the right name.

Secondly, if you want an accurate looking one, hunt down the Transformers Classics version that came out in 2006. He looks exactly the way he looks in the cartoon, which is the way he is supposed to looked forever.

Third, do not take this post very seriously. :-)

Uh, no. The TOY is named Jetfire, and this was the original name given for the character. But when they put him in the show, he was redesigned heavly so he wouldn't look like a jet from Macross/Robotech. As such, they renamed him Skyfire in the show for "legal reasons", and the show bible would later go on to say "do not use this character unless necessary", which is why he disappeared so soon after his introduction.

I'm pretty sure he went by "Jetfire" in the marvel comic series as well.

When you say he disappeared shortly after his introduction, are you meaning the toy's intro or the character on the show?

Personlly, I prefer the name Skyfire and wish that all subsequent Jetfire characters had been named Skyfire.

The show character. He was around for the first season, then appeared in the first half-dozen or so episodes of season 2, then abruptly dissappered. (much sooner than anyone else did)

It's been awhile since I've read the marvel comic run, but I think we saw little of him after his intital introduction.

I dunno how long the toy itself stayed on the market. Though I do know it was never released as a Transformer in Japan(since it was already released and well-known as a Macross jet from Bandai).

I know, that is why my third paragraph said to not take my post seriously.

However, to me, Skyfire is his real name, as I count the cartoon as the official canon, especially since BW and BM followed it. The comic series just did way too many things wrong, especially when it came to Megatron and Galvatron.
