So MGS4 comes out in June, what are you doing to keep yourself occupied (provided you are a MGS fan)? Me, I I picked up the Essential Collection the other day, mostly because I have never played the third game, and it was cheaper to get the third game with the other two for $30 rather than paying $30+ on ebay for it on its own. Not to mention I got some kick ass cover art that matches. Sadly, the first game is the PS1 version though, rather than Twin Snakes, but it is all good, I just put my TS discs in the case along with the manual it had. The other downfall is the second disc to MGS3 is not included, thus, I lost out on the original games, which is a major bummer since I have never played them before, and I won't even get into why emulators suck.
Anyway, so I spent Wed-Friday playing MGS3, and while the game kicked my ass most of the time (it took me 24 hours to finish it), it was awesome. I am kind of sad I missed out on it when it first came out, but it made playing it even better. However, I thought the game was never going to end, as it just kept on going and going. It was great getting to see the origin story to Big Boss though, but I wish there was a little bit more on what happened inbetween 3 and the original MG game (of course, as I said, I never played the originals, so I'm still missing on a lot of the story). The ending was really good though, and I do look forward to replaying it sometime in the future. Then I spent yesterday and today replaying Twin Snakes for the first time in four years, and I forgot how awesome that game was. Gray Fox kicks so much ass. It does get a little too long with the dialog during the battle with Liquid though, but it is all good. And now I have MGS2 to play, which I only played through once, and the day I ended up beating it was Jan 9 2002, so yeah, it has been a long time. I cannot wait to get to it though, especially since unlike so many others, I liked Raiden. I thought he was pretty cool and it was nice to play as someone other than Snake. So yeah, I'm getting really geared up for MGS4, and it is going to rock. Fortunately, GTAIV (along with Burnout Paradise and Smash Bros) is going to keep me occupied until it comes out, so June 12th is not going to end up being that long of a wait. The only reason MGS4 would appear on the X-Box 360 is if Kojima wanted to paint the sky red. |

I've played some of the older Metal Gear games and I wasn't all that thrilled. After about 5 minutes I stop playing my NES Metal Gear

I know that, but how can you compare the PS games to that... that thing? The only reason MGS4 would appear on the X-Box 360 is if Kojima wanted to paint the sky red. |

actually the first Metal Gear came out on the MSX2 (a Japanese personal computer). the NES version was a port of the computer version, but with added features. ^_^ MGS 4 is my console buying title. that economic stimulus package being sent in May to tax payers, will go to pay for my MGS 4:PlaySTATIOn3 bundle. You should see all the stuff Im getting at work for MGS4... though, I have COD4 , Vegas2, (when it comes out) GTA IV, RockBand, DDR, Halo3, Mass Effect (now that they've provided DLC), and Apollo Justice to tide me over until Jun 12. |

I gave up on Metal Gear after Snake-eater. It ceased to be what I loved about Metal Gear Solid, and became more like watching a movie than playing a video game...and the 'stealth' component was far weaker than in previous versions.
MGS4 is intriguing...seems to be getting back to the roots (We get to be Snake! Yeah!) but I also gave up on the Playstation and moved to XBox. So...I'll be playing CoD4, Halo 3, and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 while I continue to wait for something decent (MGS4, I hope) to come out on PS3. I suppose I need to get a PS3 at some point just to have a BluRay player. I'm not a Playstation 'hater'. PS and PS2 were fantastic, groundbreaking systems. PS3 is also a marvelous machine. I just think Sony got arrogant and blew it in the eyes of programmers, online gamers, and some of the fans(myself included) in general. But, with updates to console's now being done online, it's possible for Sony to redeem themselves given time. And before you say anything bad about XBox, I know that it had a terrible failure rate (something like 33% in the first generation of them), and I had two fail on me during this span, after only being an XBox customer for 6 months. I got replacements, and kept playing, and never really complained because the replacement process was smooth. I now have a 360 Elite which runs much cooler and quieter than previous versions, so I think Microsoft has their ducks in a row finally on the hardware end. There are just so many more games...and XBox Live is so incredibly great...that I was converted to the Dark Side. hehe Anyway...who knows. MGS4 may be a console-seller for me, too. I know it's going to sell a bunch of PS3s, as this is what a lot of people have been waiting for! =) |

I can compare them very simply, old school games can still kick the crap out of the newer games. WHY...because they had to rely on gameplay, controls, and level design to get by, not just flashy graphics and control gimicks. I love my Nintendo Wii, the controls are awesome for most of the games (Red Steel didn't impress me) and some of the games are quite inventive. However, I still go back to my NES and SNES because those games took skill. ~KBL~ I prefer the weapon that you only need to fire once. Uh... MGS was like watching a movie from the first one. As for the stealth component, it was not weaker, it was harder, and took more skill to be stealthy.
I have a 360 to, but CoD4 is the only game that came out last year that I cared about (well, I might eventually get Bioshock), and except for Ninja Gaiden II, there is nothing I care about this year for it either. Not to mention I am on my 4th system. And the PS3 has had phenomenal games. Check out Uncharted, the PS3's best game!!!!
How so? Online is FREE, which MS cannot say they have. I agree, Sony got a littel arrogant, but had they not included Blu-Ray as the PS3, Blu-Ray would not have won the format war so quickly and easily.
I'm on my 4th unit, and I hardly consider MS doing an exchange smooth. The first replacement they sent me was defective, and then I had to wait 2 weeks for them to call ME before they would allow me to send it in. That replacement died on me the day I got CoD4, so instead of waiting for their lame ass excuses, I just bought one of the ones with the HDMI and new chip in them and sold the busted one to Gamestop. If it weren't for PDZ, Hitman, and Tomb Raider, I wouldn't have bothered buying a new one. The only reason MGS4 would appear on the X-Box 360 is if Kojima wanted to paint the sky red. |

Sony's online service is free, but it's hardly worth using. You can't message in-game, you have separate friends lists for each game, you can't send invites to players who aren't playing your game, and so on. Live is vastly superior, and I don't mind paying $5 a month for it. I'd rather have Sony charge and provide something decent than have a free one that doesn't function well.
I'm not much in to one-player games, so 360 is a better choice for me. You seem to enjoy one-player games, which would make PS3 a better choice for you. I'm not putting down your precious Sony. Though I never understood why people feel the need to be so loyal to a software/hardware company so eager to grab their money. I like Microsoft's product, but I'm the first to complain when I feel like I've been screwed by them. Like the problems with Live over New Year's. That was pretty bad. My first replacement: I called, was on the phone for about 10 minutes. They sent me a box, I shipped it back, and the new one arrived in 2 weeks, along with a card for 1 month of Live membership. My second unit was exactly the same. My third unit is still functional a year later, and in the possession of my brother. I bought an Elite earlier this year. I guess you had a bad experience, but that's not the typical experience from the hundreds of people I've talked to. In any case, PS3 had little to do with winning the format war. MONEY had a LOT to do with it. Sony and its partners are much more capable of garnering support than Toshiba and its partners. Microsoft stayed out of it for the most part. Back on topic: MGS was far less movie-like than MGS2, which was less movie-like than MGS3. I liked MGS2, but wish there were more play as Snake. MGS3: The stealth was harder to do, for sure. I only say it was 'weaker' because you didn't need to use it. You could pretty much run-and-gun your way through most of the game. There was little point to using stealth. Plus, there was a ton of extra stuff to try to keep track of....I had to go into the menu so many times that I felt like I was playing an RPG. And maybe that's what it's becoming. MGS was the best of the lot so far. I was a huge fan of the series through the first two, and bought MGS3 the day it came out...and was tremendously disappointed. But that's my opinion, and I don't knock anyone for liking Snakeeater (my brother loved it, it just wasn't for me)...I just hope MGS4 is more like the first two. I also do not mean to 'bash' your PS3. I think it's a fine system. Again, it's not for me. They don't have enough of the features and types of games that _I_ enjoy. And in the end, it's about personal preference. Just wait until the Wii people come in here...they're even more rabid than Sony fans. =P |

Sony hardly won by paying companies. WB left because consumers decided they wanted BR more. We had WB reps in the Best Buy I work at back in Nov, and they were asking me which sells better, which at the time was BR. I have both formats, but the last HD-DVD I bought was Transformers.
Anyway, yeah, I don't care about playing online that much. I like single player games. To be honest, Perfect Dark Zero is the only game I have ever had a blast playing online, and kept coming back every day to play due to its co-op story mode. I do not like Deathmatches at all, as I find them boring and not fun. Where is the fun in trying to shoot one person while 20 guys are shooting you from behind? I may get another X-Box Live subscription in the future, because I do want to play PDZ and DoA4 again online, and maybe CoD4, but right now, it just is not worth it to me. In the long run though, I love all 3 systems, but the PS3 is the one that has gotten the most play. Not only for Blu-Ray, but I use it for its backwards compatibility, for my PS3 games (having a blast alternating between MGS2 and Ninja Gaiden Sigma at the moment), and I still love the Sony controller best for everything but FPS. The only reason MGS4 would appear on the X-Box 360 is if Kojima wanted to paint the sky red. |

Well, I didn't mean 'money' in the sense that they paid other companies to 'switch'. They had the big companies in their corner as it was, and where the 'money' is, others follow. Toshiba didn't stand a chance, really. Also, BluRay has better security features, which the Media companies love. I still believe HD-DVD was the more 'consumer friendly' format (cheaper to produce, could be layered to play on standard DVD), but I'm not surprised or upset that BluRay won. =)
I'll likely end up getting a PS3 soon. I need a BluRay player, and MGS4 will add that extra enticement. =) But I can't see 360 losing my 'primary console' status, because, as I said, I'm an online player, and Sony just doesn't have a grip on that segment yet. I'm gonna be picking up Rainbow Six Vegas 2 tonight. Most of the guys on my friends list are playing it now. I heard there are serious problems with the online play on it over the Sony network...like lawsuit level problems...Once I get my PS3, I'll probably play my one-player games on it for the better graphic and such, and buy the 360 versions of multiplayer/online games until Sony makes it easier on the developers to make games online-play friendly. But that likely won't be until the next-gen. |

And we have a good reason to be. When the initial designs of the Wii and its remote released, everyone...especially the diehard Nintendo fanboys (including me) were thinking "What the hell did they do?" and "What the hell were they thinking?". But I haven't met anyone who owns a Wii that was disappointed with their purchase. Game controls are great (for most games) and to me, that interaction makes all the difference. That's one reason why I can't wait for The Force Unleashed to be released on the Wii. It's lightsaber swingin' time. I own the original XBox, the PSX and the PS2, and all 5 generations of Nintendo. I'd like to buy a PS3 one day, but not until the price tag drops. Nintendo is the only system that I will pay over $200 for. I'm just wondering when game play is going to catch up with graphics on the new systems. ~KBL~ I prefer the weapon that you only need to fire once. Probably when the graphics catch up with the game play on Nintendo systems...=P I have to admit, Nintendo did it right with the Wii. They don't attract 'hardcore' gamers much, but they get young, old, and casual gamers..and there are a lot more of those around. That's why it's hard to find a Wii these days. I found Wii to be fun..but I view it more as a 'Party' or 'Family' system. It's like that email that went around that was a flowchart. Do you like good Video Games? Yes - Buy a PC No - Continue Do you have Friends? No - Buy a Playstation 3 Yes - Continue Online Friends or Real friends? Real Friends - Buy a Wii Online Friends - Buy an XBox 360 |

How would it be lawsuit level problems? You cannot sue someone just because the online play is problematic right now. That's like saying you are going to sue Taco Hell because their food gave you diarhea.
I know a lot of people. Half of them say their Wii sucks because the graphics suck (I still do not understand that argument, who cares, if the games are phenomenal, graphics should not matter!!!), while my GM and a few customers got rid of theirs after 3 months as they did not like it at all. The only reason MGS4 would appear on the X-Box 360 is if Kojima wanted to paint the sky red. |
