Comedian George Carlin dies at 71
Anti-Establishment icon gained fame with his ‘Filthy Words’ routine updated 22 minutes ago LOS ANGELES - Comedian George Carlin, a counter-culture hero famed for his routines about drugs and dirty words, died of heart failure at a Los Angeles-area hospital Sunday, a spokesman said. He was was 71. Carlin, who had a history of heart problems, died at St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica about 6 p.m. PT after being admitted earlier in the afternoon for chest pains, spokesman Jeff Abraham told Reuters. Known for his edgy, provocative material, Carlin achieved status as an anti-Establishment icon in the 1970s with stand-up bits full of drug references and a routine about seven dirty words you could not say on television. A regulatory battle over a radio broadcast of his "Filthy Words" routine ultimately reached the U.S. Supreme Court. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25322638/ I'm actually in shock. Hey, Big Gulps, all right! |

I was so sad to hear that this morning. I hope everything went well with him meeting the 'big man up in the sky.'

This is a guy who shocked and offended just about everyone on the planet at some point! His abrasive, sometimes brutal style of comedy left many with an uneasy feeling, not sure whether they should be laughing or outraged. He even got me a few times! hehe
Though we differed on a few political issues, he was a tremendously witty man...one of the few 'Thinking Man's Comics' of our times. You'll be missed, George... |

'Tis a sad day in comedy. I'll always remember his routines on 'Dogs verses Cats' and 'The Seven Dirty Words'.
Rest in peace George. ~AlluraP ~The Official Board Princess~ http://alluraandkeith.homestead.com/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/The_Legend_of_Voltron/ (Picture by Zejan the Wonder Monkey) |

What is freaky is a Jp 24 year old actress died of heart failure a few hours ago as well.
As for Carlin, noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. The only reason MGS4 would appear on the X-Box 360 is if Kojima wanted to paint the sky red. |

That's really sad. I truly enjoyed Carlin's comedy routines. He wasn't afraid to push the envelope.

Have sword, will travel! |
Now that's depressing! I just saw him at The Orleans in Las Vegas less than two weeks ago.
Although not my favorite film, I liked his part in "Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back" where he explains to Jay and Silent Bob how to hitchhike. "Remember the rules of the road!" (I can't tell you what happens next). R.I.P. George Carlin and thanks for everything! -Mark |

I was told of this news when I came home, I was quite shocked and a bit sad of his passing. I was lucky to catch one of his shows when he was on tour through Canada, he was awesome and I loved his role as Cardinal in Dogma (that and the Buddy Jesus statue made my day)
But yes, it is quite sad of his passing but he can now rest in peace. |
