It looks like that tradition is as old as anime itself, going by the age of Golion

That sort of thing can be seen in older anime also. It's there in Gatchaman, and that series is from 1972.

Well I finally watched this set and man, this show is getting better the more I watch it. In fact, I think I now like it more than Voltron because of the consistent plot. However, what the hell is up with the video during episode 18? It is terrible. It is like whoever mastered the DVD forgot to focus that episode. I do not recall the episode looking that terrible when the Voltron version aired like that on CN.

The only reason MGS4 would appear on the X-Box 360 is if Kojima wanted to paint the sky red.

I think it's a film-to-digital transfer error on Media Blasters' part. Eps 19 & 20 also suffer from the same problem.

The problem is also prevalent in the Voltron versions of the same eps on the U.S. DVDs.

That's right, I remember that now. I don't recall Ep 20 being like that though. How the hell did MB miss this major issue though?

Good question. Given the several Voltron reconstruction misedits and some poor colour "correction", I'd say they don't have a good QC department.

See, now I kind of agree, but considering what they were doing, I can handle reconstruction edits (even though I never noticed any, even the one you posted in the other topic), and I really do not know what you mean by poor color correction, but something like those episodes should have been noticeable from the get go.

MB over-did it with the colour correction during the "remastering" process, which resulted in some colours becoming too pale or muted and some yellow colours becoming too vivid.

Here's two examples of colours too pale:

http://voltarchive.animation-web.com/Miscstuff/sample02.jpg

http://voltarchive.animation-web.com/Miscstuff/sample04.jpg

The images on the left are from the U.S. DVD, the images on the right are from the TOEI Channel airing of Golion (which most of us have on DVD-R).

The colours on the left images are very pale in comparison to the more superior colours on the right images.

Look how dull the green and blues are in the first pic, and how dull the blue and skin colours are in the second pic.

Given that the U.S. DVD and the TOEI Channel airings used the SAME 16mm masters there shouldn't be such a dramatic difference in the colour quality, indicating to me MB didn't carry out the so-called colour correction properly.

*Sighs*

Am I the only one who thinks the Golion DVD-Rs have better colour quality than the Media Blasters DVDs?

The Golion DVD-r's look better. I noticed many times on the Voltron sets certain scenes looked pale or characters have red-pinkish skin, like on Pidge at the ending credits.

I finally got it the set. I agree that the colors look better on the DVD-r in those examples, but I was really to engrossed in watch the show to notice any color problems. Maybe its my TV, but the color problem just doesn't seem quite so bad to me.

Golion is awesome! I have to ask if anyone knows how accurate the subs are though. In episode 4, they sure were upset over the guys being "missing". The reactions seemed more like they thought they were dead.

No jealousy here. Hard to get jealous when the so-called "remastered" versions didn't exist at the time the Aussie DVDs came out.

Just very annoyed with MB's screw-ups on the US DVD.

Anyway, here's another example of poor colour correction:

http://voltarchive.animation-web.com/Miscstuff/sample05.jpg

Again, the left image is from the MB DVD while the right image is from the Golion DVD-R.

The cockpit interior's colour is completely grey on the MB DVD shot. It should have been light blue as shown in the Golion DVD-R shot.

I seriously think you need a life. razz

You are just trying to convince us on why MB screwed Voltron over, when it isn't working. I'll give you that on that one the Golion shot looks better, but dude, MB went through hell to get the series to look better than ever, and I will always praise them for it. Nit picking is pointless, as you only notice it if you are truly looking to notice it. Just like the Transformers DVDs from Rhino, people were looking for reasons for nitpicking rather than just enjoying the fact that we got remastered DVDs. Look at the GI Joe discs Hasbro just released with their figures, they used piss poor horrifying grainy copies when they had perfect good remastered prints to use. It is too bad WB never bothered to give Thundercats what it deserved.
