Hello,

I thought this might be an interesting way to make an introduction.

I'm your typical child of the 80's Robotech/Voltron fan.

Something in the special features on the Volume I Voltron tin DVD set brought a tear to my eye.

I couldn't believe this. I'm sure you're all familiar with those Godaikin Bandai America toys?

Well, back in the day, after Voltron had been airing and I was naturally hooked, I went to a toy stor in a shoping mall and saw something was special to me. You see, I found one of those Godaikin toys. This particular one was called "Daltanius". I remember the shiney gold colors were mezmorizing. It instantly shot up to #1 on my Christmas wish list. Remember, voltron was on awhile before any toys were offically released( I didn't see the Korean LionBot or Golion until later). So when Santa did bring me Daltanius, to me, IT WAS VOLTRON when I played with it. You know what I'm saying. The gold lion wich formed the middle section certainly lent itself to this fancie.

Well, when I watched through the special features and saw the "Voltron Trilogy" promotional, I started to cry. I learned that Daltanius: Robot Of The Future was in fact, considered to be Voltron II!!! MY CHILDHOOD FANCY was almost real!!!

This may sound stupid and I'm not sure if I'm articulating well, but this was something that was special to me.

In my own little world, Golion, Daltanius and God Sigma would have been the Voltron Trilogy. I can't understand how they almost went with those "gladiator" dudes instead of Daltanius.

Oh well. Thank you to anyone who took the time to read through this.

I totally know what you mean as far as being emotionally overwhelmed by childhood nostalgia. I was amazed to watch the newsclips on the special features of the First dvd collection . . . especially the clip of the kids going to see Keith, Pidge and Allura at the mall. I kept thinking about how those kids are probably my age and how I would have loved seeing this at the local mall.

Voltron was just one part of that daily childhood routine that is so important to all kids.

I totally can relate! I had always wanted Optimus prime (the OG, the real deal, THE G1 version!) as a kid
, but alas, never got one. Instead, I did get Ultra Magnus right about the same time as TF the movie came out. If you don't know the toy, Ultra Magnus was a repaint of Optimus in white, and could combine with his trailer to make an even larger robot. To me, that WAS Optimus Prime or atleast sometimes, it was his Ghost!Makes sense right~a white Optimus Prime, no?!

Anyway, years later, both Devils Due depicted Ultra Magnus in his Cab form (indeed, Ultra Magnus was Optimus's brother!), and the toy was release as before: a repaint of Optimus prime, except this time, just as his cab form.

ultra magnus as usually depicted in the 1980s and in Sunbow cartoons

Re-release of Ultra, and how he appeared in Devils' due comics (and as I usually played with his G1 version~Optimus Prime, in my mind).

I never understood the Gladiator Voltron concept, either. Seemed so mismatched to me.

I didn't know who Daltanius was until reading your post, but that would have been a far better Voltron II! Looks like a cross between Votrons 1 and 3!

In fact, my childhood friend got the blue gladiator Voltron for christma. I remember the phone conversation we had when we were telling each other what we got for xmas. I remember telling me over the phone (before I saw) "he got Voltron for Christmas!" I was jealous, and didn't understand why he wasn't sounding as enthused as I was! Then I got to his house, saw the robot, and I understood, then.

I remember playing with the Transformers generation 1 toys when I was a kid. I would always cherish those moments, I grew up in the eighties and loved watching Voltron and Transformers. Those were my number two shows to watch. I never saw Vehicle Force, I was mainly hooked on Voltron and Transformers. I saw Transformers the movie and was saddened to see my favorite autobot get killed off. I have the first collection of Golion and love it, the only thing is that well it's dark and violent as hell and I love that type of stuff to be in my cartoons and in the stories I tend to write and draw. The main show that I will always remember is Voltron. I never got any of the lions, I never had a Voltron toy. I was looking on youtube and saw a Masterpiece Figure of Voltron and of Optimus Prime and the kid in me says "I WANT ONE I WANT ONE!" So I can probably imagine how much they would cost but I did find two Voltron shirts at my local hot topic that I plan on picking up. One shirt is with the lions combined to form Voltron who has the blazing sword raise in the air and the other shirt has the lions seperated. So I do intend on picking up those shirts this week. Hopefully the Omnibus of Voltron will arrive the following week.

Yeah, my big 5 cartoons in the 80s were (no particular order) Voltron (lions), Transformers,GI Joe, Heman, and Thundercats!

I occasionally watched the vehicle voltron, but the Lions are what I consider the 'real" voltron.
