Hello everyone,
I'm new here to the forum entirely, but was too excited to post elsewhere. Anyone ever purchase the VOLTRON SDTK CD? Saw there's no post about it that I was able to find elsewhere here. John Petersen's score is alright to listen to outside the show. The CD is actually 53 tracks of music. The unlisted 53rd track is of the theme to "Vytor". I'm a fan of what we call here "VEHICLE VOLTRON". My only pet peeve about the SDTK CD is that it doesn't seem to acknowledge THAT show in either the packaging, or in the track titles. Tracks 49 and 50 ( which are the longest tracks, 22 and 9 mins, respectively, upon the entire disc ) contain what are themes that had dominately ran throughout the "VV" series, especially those themes that accompany VV as it combats a "Robeast" foe. Those were always my fave portions of music to hear from the "LV and VV" shows. But those two tracks are a montage mix of the show's other character themes and not fully allowing the "combat themes" to be heard as an uninterrupted, conducive suite of theme. Tracks 11 "Dangerous", 28 "Voltron arrives", 35 "Underground Base", comes close to what I wanted to hear initially. 49 and 50 with its snippets of "combat themes" -actually round out things towards what is an enjoyable listening experience of a tv music score cd. The rest of the album is purely oriented towards "Lion Voltron" themes and scenes. It's fun listening to the "LV" assembly sequence with and without the vocal track. Some of the themes even contain great acoustic effects normally lost in tv sounding. I was surprised at how some tracks sounded out of my CD player. Petersen's music shows, or feels a kind of unexplored depth yet to be tapped of his artistry. Be great if they gave him a shot to do the "supposed upcoming live action" film score. He's had 25 years to rethink that score. Why not?! If you're fan of either show, which the music is used through both, you'd enjoy this cd very, very much so. I do recommend it. |
