Resident Ego-Maniacal Mod![]() |
Looks like remastered Voltron is getting a UK DVD release:
http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/5238519/Voltron-Defender...e-Lion/Product.html# http://www.amazon.co.uk/Voltron-Defender-Universe-Colle...id=1207318683&sr=1-5 Even though the cover is practically the same as the US DVD the steelbook casing is quite enticing. |

Very Cool. A nice collector's item. It lists Japanese as one of the languages.

That's probably a mistake. |

Yeah...matter of fact, back when the "steel tin" packaging was first announced for Region 1, I remember strongly advocating a steelbook release instead, but of course, who ever listens to me? |

Looks like the UK DVD will have English subtitles on it.
The play.com listing indicates it has English subtitles on it, as does this AnimeonDVD.com review of the DVD: http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/7279.php Fingers crossed it does have English subtitles! EDIT: Judging from this review, the DVD actually appears to be of the unremastered version and not the remastered version despite offical blurbs saying the DVD was sourced from remastered elements: http://www.myreviewer.com/default.asp?a=103188 The AnimeonDVD.com review seems to contradict this though. Confusion, confusion and more confusion. Eesh. |

"The menu is a simple screen, with a grey background and slowly-moving headshots of Keith."
WOO-HOO!! OH Wow, production sketches! Character profiles! I'm more curious about this dvd!! |

Sounds like the extras are identical to the ones on the Australian Lion Voltron Collection 1 DVD.

Ok so ive already got the Madman Aus versions and have already seen the difference in picture quality from posts in these forums so ive placed my pre-order with play.com.
There are a couple of thing I would like to know so could somebody answer a couple of questions please? 1: Is the region 2 set identicle to the region 1 set with regards to features etc? 2: Has the region 2 set got 5.1 audio as from what ive seen I can only see reports of 2.0 audio.? Play.com have a count down of 9 days until release so would love to know if the Region 2 DVD's are gonna be worth getting or should I cancel my pre-order and get the Region 1 sets? |

No. The R1 release has is a comprehensive set of interviews with the makers of Voltron, a making of the dvd feature, and the original promotional "voltron trilogy" pilots.
I guess it depends on what you want. If you're just concerned about getting the show, then I'd go with whatever cheaper/easier to get. But for the best picture, sound and extras, the R1 releases are the way to go. |

What I would like is a set that is better than what ive already got with the madman versions. If what your saying is true then it seems it could be basicaly the same as what I already have so does anyone know why Region 2 is getting an inferior version than the Region 1 version? |

This is not good at all.
Judging by this picture that was uploaded to http://www.myreviewer.com/default.asp?a=103074 it seems that this R2 version is exactly the same as the madman version that I already have got. So are we getting the Remastered DVD's or not as im not too sure we are? So until somebody posts what its like once they get it then I think I best cancel my pre-order. |

It's simply what they had avalible. When Madman made the R2 version, they used whatever pre-existing Voltron master they aquired. Apparently, they only made plans to release just Voltron; with no plans for Golion or Dairugger. For the R1 release, apparently, Media Blasters made a deal with World Events Production. and Toei animation co. This way, they got a copy of the remastered version of Golion and Dairugger, and thus, was able to make a remastered Voltron(given the series' nature, this is the only way a remaster is possible for this series). The drawback is that the release has been sllllllllooooowwwww... (no Vehicle Voltron yet). If the UK is the same as the Austruian's version, then I'm guessing they sub-licenced from Madman. Edit: after looking at those pictures on that site; it's safe to say this is not the remastered version. The R1 version is quite a bit sharper and more colorful. Edit: comparisons; R2 version remastered R1: |

Regardless of wether or not the UK DVD is remastered, I'm still getting the DVD.
The steelbook case is just so damn enticing! EDIT: According to this review, there's no English subtitles on the DVD after all: http://www.sci-fi-london.com/news/article/1211737712/3/...llection-1-blue-lion |

Amazon.co.uk just shipped my copy of the DVD.
Wasn't expecting it to be shipped until June 2nd, which is the DVD's release date. |

So now its out do we have any verdicts on the region 2 release?
Other than online ive not seen it on the shelves yet. Is it just the Aus Pal Madman version in new packaging or is it the remastered version with fewer extras? |
