I just wish there was a site where I could download Albegas and Daltanius to be able to at least see what the series were like.

The weird thing is though..there was a clip posted somewhere...Youtube I think...that looked like a WEP promo pitch for Voltron. From the clips they showed, it looks like they were going to initially use GoLion, Dairugger and Daltanius (instead of Albegas). Later though, it was Albegas (and not Daltanius)that got pitched as the third (possible)Voltron... |

..I started this whole thread with a link to that. It's also on the special features of the third disk of the Blue Lion tin box dvd set. well, if some rumors on the internet turn out to be true, then actually the exact oppisit is the case. Again, on the special features, there's an interview with one of the WEP staff and he said that the original Voltron trio was: 1.Dairugger 2. Albegas 3.Daltanious they did not know of Golion at that time. but then later, when they incorporated Golion, the Voltron trio was 1.Dairugger 2. DALTANIOUS 3. Golion. We know this because of the promo. Notice it is Albegas, NOT Daltanious that is absent from the trio. So then why did they have the "Gladiator" Voltron II(Albegas) toys? I've read that those toys were released because Matchbox already had the rights to the toy designs from Japan and thought they'd sell good. Then, of course, they attach the Voltron name-tag for good measure sense WEP had the rights to the Albegas anime. Not sure if this is 100% true, but this flow of events makes sense to me and what I honestly believe what happened. Daltanious IS VOLTRON of The Middle Universe!!!!! I think you've hit the nail on the head there.

The Daltanius pilot was apparently aired in at least two different markets by WEP (Honolulu and San Francisco), but didn't garner sufficient ratings-juice to warrant a full adaptation commitment by the company. Also bear in mind too that this was coming in the immediate wake of VV's less-than-stellar success (compared to LV's run), so there were even fewer incentives/public-perception spiffs for World Events to consider when they decided to kill it. Sure hope this eventually turns up in one of the Vehicle Voltron sets. That brief promo in the "Blue Lion" collection has given me a major case of Daltanius blueballs. |

Exactly. What makes it even worse for me is that I had and still have the Godaikin Daltanious toy. Trust me, it was my favorite toy and when I played with it, I played like it was Voltron. That is why I freaked when I saw the promo. It's pretty much reached "obsession" levels with me now. LOL! I went so far as to take a trip to Little Tokyo L.A. to see if I can find the anime. No luck. Apparently, Toei has not released it to DVD in Japan. It exists in Laserdisk, but not DVD. But what's kind of odd, is that all though Japan(land where it was created) doesn't have it available, there is an Italian dubbed version on DVD. The impression that I get is that Daltanious had success in Italy similar to how Voltron/Golion did in the U.S.. I've seen a box set with all 47 episodes, the entire series for sale at an Italian "Amazon" type webstore. I am currently looking into what it would take to get a copy. But I can tell you it's more than likley going to be EXTREMLY costly to do it that way. The Euro vs the dollar, and shipping alone will probably make it impossible. I'll be keeping an eye out at all of the dealer tables at all of the various anime-type events here in SoCal. In the meantime, to sooth your balls, just go to YouTube and do a search for "Daltanious" and some stuff comes up. Even an episode devided into 6 parts! There is a character I believe would have been great as Pidge & Chip's brother. Daltanious IS VOLTRON of The Middle Universe!!!!! Hail Supreme Commander Leonard and the D.O.L. |

I think Daltanius may have been shown on the TOEI channel in Japan several years ago during the GoLion/DaiRugger XV/Albegas airings.
If it was, there's a chance someone may have recorded the series on to DVD-R like GoLion, DaiRugger XV and Albegas was. EDIT: Daltanius WAS aired a few years back and someone DID record the series on to DVD-R. The following site is selling copies of the DVD-R: http://www.angelfire.com/ny/henshin/ That site is where our GoLion, DaiRugger XV and Albegas DVD-Rs originated from. If you're desperate for Daltanius episodes, then I guess that site might be the only option right now. |

Thanks SGB!
But how does this work? I saw the Daltanious listing page (purple background, right?), but I don't see anything that says "buy" or "download" or whatever. Now please excuse this stupid question but...what does the "R" mean in "DVD-Rs". Is "Anglefire" selling dvds?? It lists them as "volume I: Episodes 1 - 10" ect. See, I don't even know what midium I'm dealing with. Education, please. Daltanious IS VOLTRON of The Middle Universe!!!!! Hail Supreme Commander Leonard and the D.O.L. |

The site's ordering information is on this page: http://www.angelfire.com/ny/henshin/dvd.htm
The site sells DVDs. DVD-R is just a disc type format and is like a normal DVD. The "R" in "DVD-R" means recordable. If you have a DVD burner or DVD recorder, you can record programs to blank DVD-R (or DVD+R) discs. DVD-R (and DVD+R) discs can also be used for data storage. DVD-R discs work like any other DVDs and are playable on most DVD players. Check your DVD player's manual to see if your DVD player can playback DVD-R discs. |

Thanks again, SGB.
Yes, I found the "Order Info" page. I figured that's what it meant, but I didn't know for sure. Thanks again! You say this is how you got your Golion?(BTW, your site is great. I remember seeing it a while back. I didn't realize that's you.) Judging from the info and images you present on your site, these dvd's are pretty good quality. I guess it get's your full recomendation? I can feel safe ordering from this source? Daltanious IS VOLTRON of The Middle Universe!!!!! Hail Supreme Commander Leonard and the D.O.L. |

I didn't get the GoLion discs myself from that site, someone else in the Voltron fandom did and copies of the discs found their way through the fandom. I got my copies of the GoLion (and most of the DaiRugger XV) discs from Coldwin.
Thanks.
The Daltanious episodes should be in more than satisfactory condition and similar to the GoLion, Albegas and DaiRugger XV discs. Due to home DVD recording limitations (and to a degree the signal strength of the TOEI channel), the Daltanious discs will probably have some compression artefacting here and there, but chances are it's the best quality copy of the series so far.
To be honest, I can't give a clear cut answer. I've never actually ordered anything from that site but I did do a trade with the guy who owns it and that went fine. I think a couple of other board members have dealt with that site, so if they're reading this thread they might be able to offer a better answer than me. If you're real desperate for Daltanious eps and feel like ordering from that site but still have some apprehensiveness about it, why not order one or two discs to start off with and see how the transaction goes. If it goes well and you're happy with how things went, then you can order the rest of the DVDs if you feel comfortable enough with it. |

Yes, exactly. I've already placed an order for the first two volumes. If the discs are satisfactory and the over all experience goes smooth. I will probably buy 2 discs at a time until I have the whole series. (then WEP will release it domestically, just to make me look like an ass! Based on the clips I've seen at youtube, Daltanious seems to be geared toward children. But so long as the robot action is good, well just turn off the volume, pop in a Voltron soundtrack cd (are those avalaible, BTW??) and enjoy!!! Thanks SGB. You'll share this experience with me. I asked a similar question back when the Blue Lion set first came out. I'd love to see the Daltanius-Voltron dub - it'd be great [assuming it can be found] if WEP could include it as an extra in the VV sets. Perhaps as a part of some "Voltron that could have been" themed extras that also cover what sorts of ideas may have been developed for the Albegas-Voltron conversion. Thematically - it kind of makes more since to have Daltanius-Voltron as Voltron of the Middle Universe as the seperate Daltanius elements visually bridge GoLion-Voltron and DXV-Voltron. Hey, I love that title you just coined! "The Voltron That Could Have Been!" Could you imagine if they released BOTH Albegase AND Daltanious in one huge DVD box set under that title???? ...and then the Barbie Twins decide to marry me and then I wake up..... Exactly. That's what I've been saying. It's got the Gold Lion(hello!! big reason right there) and it's face is also human shaped like LV and VV. And it's got a vehicle to boot! In it's wikipedia listing, it mentions the irony that Daltanious seperated is: 1. one Gold Lion - LV 2. one Vehicle - VV 3. one Gladiator - Albegas Daltanious IS VOLTRON of The Middle Universe!!!!!
