How many versions of "Fleet of Doom" exist and, if applicable, which is the best version? (That's my feeling from how this post is phrased.)

There are only two "Fleet Of Doom" DVD releases thus far: one that World Events Productions released a couple of years ago, and Media Blasters' own release.

As for which DVD release has the best quality, we won't know until we get to watch the Media Blasters disc.

Wait, was this release not pushed ahead to July 14th as Vol 8 had been July 7th? We got this in at work and have been selling it since it came in a few days after the 14th.

I may have to look closer, but I was at Best Buy a couple days ago, and didn't see Fleet of Doom there. Though strangely, Voltron volume 6 and 7 were in the "tv set" area, while volume 8 was stocked in the "anime" area.

That's because Vol 8 and FoD are categorized as Anime instead of TV A-Z, and the employees there obviously are too stupid to realize it is best to make an executive decision and place it in TV with the rest of the volumes.

As for FoD, maybe they were sold out. My store only got in 3 copies, and two of them have been sold already.

Finally got the DVD! A quick review:

Video: Slighty better than the WEP dvd, though still not as good as the remastered Golion/Dairugger footage, which are noteably sharper than the rest of the feature (when it cuts to that scene of Cliff in the cockpit, I could't help but think 'dude, that looks shaaaaaaaaarp....')

Oh, and there's no 30-second dead air between commercial bumpers here.

Audio: MUCH better than the WEP version. Sound is loud and clear here(a little too loud sometimes)

Extras: only extras are "Animation Bloopers", and "episode 1 of Lion and Vehicle Voltron".
"Animation Bloopers" is actually a collection of scenes trimmed out of the film, or alternative(flubed) takes of scenes). Worth looking at for a few seconds of new footage, including an alternative version of the two Voltrons side-by-side.
"Episode 1 of Lion and Vehicle Voltron" is just what you expect to see. Yep, gotta pad things out somehow. Once again, there's no trailers for Dairugger, though there is one for Golion... coming 2008!

In short: Much better than the WEP version. The improved audio and lack of dead air makes a huge difference in enjoyment. If you don't already have FOD, this is the version to get. Though it's annoying that I had to double-dip this title just to have decent audio.

Thanks for the details and comparison pics.

From the second comparison pic, IMO the colour on the WEP DVD is better than the colour on the MB DVD. The MB DVD is sharper and clearer though.

The "animation bloopers" reel sounds interesting. How long does it run for?

Hmmm, a few highlights:

A large chunk of it are scenes with alternative backgrounds, others are scenes that were fixed(animation, or in this case, coloring errors)

There are some scenes that were trimmed out.

After Hagger steels Allura's spirit, the camera pans from Lance to Keith to.... Hunk yawning?

After Allura is recused, she and Keith hold hands... and the camera pans down to the mice for no apparent reason.

After the castle attack the fleet of doom, the bugman gets blown up real good.

Apparently, an alternative version of "The Two Voltron" shot at the end.
