Well, with the addition of the voice talent for the German DVDs, I thought it would be appropriate to create a new discussion devoted to them.

I invite all the German Voice talent to introduce themselves in this thread and to tell us a little about their background, their work experience, and about the work their are putting into the German DVDs.

I'm sure I speak for many when I say that we're very interested in hearing all about you and all the talent and energy you're putting into your DVDs. Big Grin

I'm lazy, so copy & paste: Roll Eyes

As you can see, I'm the chosen voice actor for Sven. Also I'm responsible for the script adaption and additional voice direction. At the moment the work is (still) pretty funny but man...what an amount of episodes!

The first DVD will contain 9 episodes and some bonus features. We don't know the details yet.

The german Voice of Lance

So Hello again.
My Name is Daniel Käser.
I'm 21 years old and I do voice-acting since ~5 years.
To be honest, Voltron is our first BIG Project.
Since I realized how huge the Fan-Community outside Germany (especially USA) is, I became very proud to do it.
As the Publisher offered us the Job we realized that in the 90s there already was a german Dub which run on Television. We watched together a couple of Episodes and decided for us that's a pretty lame Dub.
For the DVDs we wanted something really near to the original Version but with its own flair, so we put together an Wish-Cast-Mix of talented Freshmen and hardtime Pros.

I think that's all. Left to say we'll give our best to show the Fans a german Voltron which rocks Wink

Auf geht's Voltron!

Well now,
my name is René Dawn-Claude, I'm 24 years old and I've also been doing voice acting for several years (in the last 2 years I was able to work frequently in professional projects, like video games or animes).
Like Daniel said Voltron is our first big project, and we're full with passion, since we can decide how Voltron will be transfered into german.
The funny thing by the way is, that it was a mere coincidence, that we were involved into this production so much. Guess it was fate! ^^

Welcome a-board and best of luck on the German DVD. Wink

Quick question -- will the German DVD feature the original English audio track?

herzlich willkommen

trey cool that we have the talent from the Voltron German cast! Glad to have you all join us here in the Voltron center of fandom! You can see that we are avid fans of the series, and to think that some of you weren't even born when MOST of us saw it air on tv (Daniel Käser) and maybe one of you were in diapers when it first aired in America (René).

isn't it just awesome to be apart of a show that has brought together so many fans from across the world?

Aloha, from a displaced Hawaiian gal.

Excellent. Big Grin

I know it's going to be a German release, but will the DVD have any English subtitles for the deaf and hearing impaired?

Oh I don't think so, we could ask our Publisher... but I think it won't fit in the Budget.

It'll be a bit of a bummer if there's no English subtitles.

And to be clear, when I asked if there'd be any subtitles, I was asking if there'd be subtitles for the English audio track.

Just wanted to point that out.

As far as I remember, the publisher told me that there will be no subs at all.

Sorry for the necroposting. ^^

The release of the first German Voltron DVD is March 10th. The first volume will contain 10 episodes.
The recordings for the first 10 episodes were done from November till January and the final mixing (in which we are not involved, so I have a little bad feeling about this) were finished in February.

The whole cast is now listed at animenewsnetwork.com.

Okay, now a few notes what you can expect from the dub.^^

The script (and some voices) are rather a "re-version" than a faithful adaptation. That's because the show is so old, that we had to "modernize" it through the dialogs. Some of the "verbal censoring" is also gone. So, when they say (for example) that one is sleeping (lol) or only wounded, he/she is dead in our dub (like in the Japanese version). Only Svens fate is the same as in the US version.
Furthermore, we added many gags, insiders and names (for the RoBeasts, starships etc.). This was done, because the publisher wanted to advertise Voltron as "The other great show along Saber Rider" and Saber Rider had many gags in the German dub. But I have to say, that the gags and jokes are only said by characters who are suitable to say them. So, Zarkon wouldn't say anything funny. Wink

About some voices:

Keith (Dennis Saemann)
I think we choose an voice actor who is pretty similiar to Neil Ross' Keith. Maybe a little bit older (although Dennis is 25 years old) but he has the same "leader/hero" tone in his voice.

Hunk (René Dawn-Claude)
Hunk was very hard to cast. He should sound "fat" (or big if you prefer) but not like an average fat and dumb guy. So, we concentrated on his funny (interaction with Lance) and his strong (for example, the episode with Twyla) moments and choose René (which is also the main voice director for the show). In the first moment, René's Hunk sounds pretty different from Lennie Weinrib's but later you will hear that the acting/the interpretation of Hunk's character is excactly the same.

Lance (Daniel Kaeser)
Lance is the buddy type but also sometimes short-tempered and of course he has a joke for every situation. Daniel's Lance is a little bit gruffier and a little bit more raspy than Michael Bell.
He is one primary factor for the fun.

Pidge (Dennis Sonntag)
It was very hard to find a good voice for Pidge. We couldn't cast a child (because most of the children in the voice actor business can't act) and we couldn't cast an older voice actor, because in German it would sound ridiculous if someone would try to force his voice so that he sounded like a child (or a teenager, because Pidge isn't actually a real little child). Our choice was Dennis Sonntag, because his normal voice is pretty young and he has to speak only a little bit higher than normal, so it would fit Pidge. I think he fits pretty perfectly and his acting is simply great.

Sven (Timo R. Schouren)
Yeah, that's me. I don't want to say much about my acting and so one, but at least something why I was choosen. First of all, my Sven doesn't have a Norwegian accent. That's because it would sound more than ridiculous in the German language (respectively in a German dub). If we did give Sven a Norwegian accent, no one would take him seriously.
Seriousness is the whole point about Sven. He is the second in command and responsibility is his fate. So I gave him a serious and a little more older voice (older than the other guys, but not really old Wink ).
The role was very funny to play and it's a shame that he doesn't have so much screentime. But Sven's time will come. :P Furthermore I'm busy with the scripts (and other things here and there).

Allura (Rieke Werner)
Like our Keith, Rieke is very true to B.J. Wards Allura. A voice which is perfect not only for a princess, but also for a nice girl and a person who only wants to protect her people.

Okay, next time I'll write about the villians.^^
I hope I can upload a few clips in the future. At least the trailer could be released in a few days.

Generally I would say that with the German dub Voltron is a show which dismiss itself a little bit and is also very entertaining. I hope the fans (both, the German and the American fans) like our dub, because we put all we have into it.
