There's been an update on VoltronDVD.com with an early concept of the Volume 1 set and interesting news about the Voltron and GoLion masters:

quote:
We've started our race to get cool packaging done for September! So with no rest in site for the Art Department, here we give you an early concept of what will eventually be our Volume 1, The Blue lion Collector's Tin (gotta form the feet and legs first!) Each lion tin will house a digi-pack with 3 DVDs and a booklet. So keep your eye's peeled for more updates, we hope to have more prototypes soon!(video is in the "trailers" section under "extras").

Tracking down Voltron materials has turned out to be quite an adventure. There are the original voltron video tape masters, those are the source for the Austrailian DVD's, as near as we can tell. The picture could be sharpened and the color could be re-corrected, but when you start at that level of quality and mess with it, all kinds of bad artifacting can occur. We were also looking at the original 16 millimeter film prints. IF we start with film, you can use a process called Telecine to convert it to modern SDI or HD video. Although we're not sure what 20-something year old 16 millimeter film grain is going to look like rendered it perfect crisp, clear HD. Could be a scary thing.

But, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. The original Japanese creators have the original Go-lion film negatives from the original shooting. Not only that, but for a special TV release, they already ran them through a Telecine machine and created SDI video masters. These could be one fantastic set of masters, and right now we're waiting at the edge of our seats to get a look at them.
Now of course, these are Go-lion masters. While Voltron was created with footage form Go-lion, they are most certainly not the same thing. Why, to recreate Voltron from Go-lion shot for shot, frame for frame to absolute perfection would take thousands of man hours, maybe even forever. If you don't see an update here in the next few weeks, that means the video department has rioted and Media Blasters is now an encampment from Lord of the Flies... don't think it couldn't happen.

The Volume 1 tin set looks quite interesting, though the head is a bit too flat for my liking. But still, a box in the shape of a Lion's head is a great idea!

nice idea, but my complaint would be that it would be kinda difficult to store these on a shelf.

The last 3 volumes will be for Vehicle Voltron, so those tins will not have any LV-related designs.

It should be interesting to see what they do for VV.

In that case, they'll probably have the art design based on the three seperate teams. Razzer

Ya, W shouldn't even qualify as a letter though. If you look, it's the only letter in the english [and french, maybe others, I don't know of] that isn't one syllable. Inface, spelt out it contains a word! "Double U". The funny thing is, if you say it in french it's "Double V". V pronounced in the french way, but at least they know how to tell the difference between a V shape and an U shape. lol

I'd like it if they had it done in 3D. The box, not the show! Put that rope away you lynch mob! lol

If the tin is done in 3D, then it will look like the lions head, but still be flat for easier storage. As is...I agree with Arus.
