The Official Caretaker of the Castle Library and Archives![]() |
In the episode where Zarkon is dying, Lotor and Haggar are Zarkon. A guard comes in to talk to Lotor and then you see a scene with Lotor talking and it is a closeup of him pretty much. The scene seems to stop and then start again. Is the disc changing layers at this point? Does this happen on your disc too? Do you notice any flaws at all in this episode?
Thanks. |

It's the layer change.
The layer change was poorly placed. It should have been put in between episodes or in between one of the ad break intro & outros. |

No problemo.

YES, I HAVE THE SAME SITUATION ON MY DVD.
IT`S PROBABLY HOW THEY WERE REMASTERED. I READ ON ANOTHER SITE THAT THE PEOPLE WHO REMASTERED THE DVDS TTO THE CURRENT FORMAT HAD LITTLE TO WORK WITH. |

Patrick, as I explained before, the cause of the issue is the layer change.
It has nothing to do with how the episode was remastered. |

I may have missed this somewhere back on another thread but what does that mean by layer change?

It's when the DVD player switches from one data layer to the other on the DVD.
When the layer change occurs sometimes there's a brief 1 to 2 second pause in playback, depending on the DVD player. This is normal. Some DVD players can breeze through layer changes with no pauses while some others can't. Only dual-layered discs have the pauses. There's no pauses on single layer discs because they only have one data layer, whereas dual-layered discs have two layers. When studios use dual-layered discs, they try to place the layer change in a spot where it won't be noticeable. Sometimes they place layer changes well, sometimes they don't. One of the best layer change placings I've seen is on the RoboCop SE DVD from a few years back. The layer change was placed in the scene of blackness and silence after Murphy dies. Because there was only blackness and no audio, the layer change flies by unnoticed. |

That's neat. I'll have to watch that Zarkon is dying ep and see if mine does that.
