Princess Of Planet Doom![]() |
Hey, I was watching a clip of the Dairugger version of Vehicle Voltron on YouTube & seen a piece where Hazar is left to die on a planet.
Does this same thing happen on the Voltron version or did it get switched or edited? If he died, then watching Voltron would remind me of watching soaps & movies where one balls their eyes out. <a href="http://s78.photobucket.com/albums/j116/GangstaIris/?action=view¤t=princessiris3.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j116/GangstaIris/princessiris3.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> |

I don't believe so. I'm pretty sure Hazar didn't die in VV. But I'll let SGB answer that, or some of our seasoned VV watchers. They're more knowledgable about it than I.

That's what happens in battle. People die. I've seen many forget the fact that the Voltron Force was fighting a war. ~KBL~ I prefer the weapon that you only need to fire once. KBL's Message Board My Voltron Movie Script Review ToyFare Magazine interview with Justin Marks |

People getting killed is realistic though. And I am happy Lotor and gang died in the JP series, for it meant they got a conclusion where all we got were more episodes with no ending at all. I have nothing against them keeping characters alive to do more stuff, but if you are going to do it, THEN HAVE A FRIGGIN CONCLUSION PLANNED!!!!!! I am still trying to figure out why Robotech could kill people, but WEP was not allowed to do so with Voltron. The only reason MGS4 would appear on the X-Box 360 is if Kojima wanted to paint the sky red. |

One theory on this:
You had Voltron, whose American distributor was headquartered out of the "family-friendly" Midwest (St. Louis). And then you had Robotech, whose North American HQ was Los Angeles (Harmony Gold). The math is fairly doable, at this point. To this very day, I'm strongly of the opinion that WEP's desire for "family" entertainment played at least a partial role in the watering-down of Voltron from its original Japanese components, whereas Harmony Gold took a far more farsighted approach regarding Robotech, and the results speak for themselves. To be fair, sure -- even shows like G.I. Joe and Transformers (which predated Voltron) sanitized their violence to a large extent, and the American ratings system at the time was quite harsh, but it's very possible that the Los Angeles creative environment fostered a greater sense of risk-taking when Robotech came around, and which ultimately served to push the entire US animation industry's "edginess"-envelope forward more than a bit. To what degree Ted Koplar and the rest of the WEP execs had a hand or didn't have a hand in quasi-emasculating Voltron (almost a crime equaling the bowdlerization of Lady Chatterley's Lover...almost) and handcuffing the writer staff, we can't say with 100% certainty. But I think that the interviews on the DVDs are quite telling, particularly Marc Handler's comments. |

Fixed.
(Slip of the ol' finger, there...kept thinking "West End Games" instead of "World Events Productions.") |

I guess I can agree with most of what you said, except standards are even harsher today. You can't even make a gun look realistic anymore. Hell, look at the dubs to Yu-Gi-Oh! and One Piece. The only reason MGS4 would appear on the X-Box 360 is if Kojima wanted to paint the sky red. |
