The following article caught my eye (perhaps it has already been posted?)

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/...recher/news/?a=10296

Voltron Movie Producers Sue Owners for Fraud
The popular animated cartoon joins the long list of recent comic, animation and movie properties to go to court.

Independent producers James Young, Ford Oelman and Mark Costa of Animus Films and NHO Entertainment recently filed suit in Los Angeles Superior Court against World Events, the owners of the rights to Voltron.

The producers claim that World Events secretly negotiated with other producers, while they were busy putting together financing and hiring writers for a Voltron feature film. The suit reads:

"World Events secretly conspired with Jason Netter and Kickstart Entertainment to find investors and make the movie without NHO and Animus during the terms of the exclusive deal."

The producers are suing for fraud, breach of contract and interference with contractual relations and are seeking various damages.

In response, a spokesperson for World Events said:

This lawsuit is frivolous and without merit, and we will defend ourselves vigorously...fortunately, these baseless claims do not in any way encumber the film or any other Voltron project, and we are excited to proceed on the long-awaited Voltron feature film with our partner Atlas."

Did I miss something?

AFAIK:

Kickstart was doing the CARTOON
Atlas was doing the LIVE ACTION

How did these two end up together other than the licensing? Is the movie going to be animated or is the article really talking about the cartoon?

Or is this posting all old and moldy and I just wasn't paying attention?

Here we go again. But at least this time WEP made a statement. Good job! Let's fight the good fight and get our movie out there!

What?....... I tell ya I turn my back for a few weeks and this happens.... LOL!

Seriously though I agree with Sapphirestone99, at least WEP made a statement this time. Its all about money, who is going to make money from this venture and who wants in really.

For crying out loud just make the movie will ya. LOL! As for the cartoon, as much as I would love to see a new series being made I very much doubt it will happen till after the movie has been released and the new series will be based on the movie, it always happens.

Lets hope everything goes smoothly for a 2011 release and perhaps a teaser preview next year sometime. Smiler

I should come with a warning label but it wore off years ago. LOL!

Kickstart was (is?) indeed involved in the unmade animated series; Netter was producing the Voltron 3D series before that.

Neither party sounds like someone you would realistically go to to find investors for filming a major Hollywood movie.

Not to mention, that out of all the various parties that have been attached to the (proposed) movie at one time or another, I have zero recollection whatsoever of the names Young, Oelman, Costa, Animus Films or NHO Ent.

Looks to me like this all leads back to WEP's "frivolous and without merit" comment. razz

I know WEP does need to make a "official" statement or more on what the hell is going on both the movie and the new series, if the new series is happening etc. (which I highly doubt will happen until the movie is released). Right now its just speculation. Yeah we got told about the producers etc but we do need more.

Please WEP can you give us more on what is going on? "Officially" speaking of course, not what can or maybe happening.... We don't want to know everything, which would be nice but something more to add? To stop the rumours etc. Smiler

I don't care how long it takes to make the Voltron live action film as long as whoever makes it, does a fantastic job and stays loyal to the classic characters and plot of the original cartoon (preferably the ORIGINAL original GoLion!).

If a GOOD Voltron film is made before my death, you can count on me to drag all of my friends and family members to it. My ideas of GOOD films are: Pan's Labyrinth, The Dark Night, Eastern Promises, and (the new) Star Trek. The Hellboy films were not bad either.... If we get a Voltron film of the quality of the above mentioned films, I will happily drag every Tom, Dick, and Harry to it and feed those box offices.

Are these types of legal battles typical in the film industry when translating a TV cartoon series into a live action film?

Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro are about the only filmmakers I can think of offhand who would not only make a a good movie out of this, but also give it integrity (something hack Michael Bay didn't [and likely couldn't] do with "Transformers" razz ).

I would hope they go with relative (if not complete) unknowns for casting, and hopefully not any bland, seemingly not-too-bright pretty boys (e.g. Ryan Reynolds, Chris Evans or Channing Tatum) in the roles of Keith, Sven and Lance...or any vapid bimbos (e.g. Megan Fox or Shannon Elizabeth) as Allura and Romelle.

Honestly, more than a movie I think I'd rather see an animated sort of remake of the entire series (keeping in line with the original "GoLion" and "Dairugger XV" animation) incorporating the best moments from both the Japanese (Voltron's origin, Nanny's death, all the Doom soldiers being aliens as opposed to robots, the additional violence) and the American (not killing off Sven, Sven and Romelle's relationship) versions and additional episodes (making maybe about 100 total) to add further arcs. Same with the Vehicle Voltron...only with better character development among ALL FIFTEEN pilots. That adaptation of "Albegas"/Gladiator Voltron would be great to see as well (yeah, I know I'm getting my hopes up there Confused ).

Voltron should be on the level with Gundam. The depth the characterizations, the awful tuth of war and fighting (not everything is a happy ending), multiple episode story arcs (so as its not so formulaic), but please NO freaking annoying whiney characters. They grate on my nerves so bad.....

Thanks, glad to be here!

I think a sort of prologue episode featuring the pilots of all 3 Voltron Forces (Lion, Vehicle, and Gladiator) on the eve of graduating from the Space Academy and getting their assignments and heading off to their respective worlds would be the best way to introduce the whole Voltron legacy and give the backstory for each of the 3 robots (and why they were given the name 'Voltron'). After that, each team would go their separate ways for their own stories...possibly reuniting at the end of each of their respective runs for one big showdown/ultimate battle with the Drules/Doomites/Derinjans to restore peace to the galaxy.

Why not GV as well? I mean, the little "Albegas" footage I've seen looks as though he'd make an even faster and slicker Voltron than the other 2 (if not quite as cool Wink ).

BTW, the score would be another thing that would definitely be retained from the American versions.
