To continue Radotep's train of thought... What gets me is that he used the Pyramids of Giza (3 of them) and the Mayan Temples (2 of them). I think it would have made more sense to use on pyramid, one Mayan temple, the Stonehenge, a statue on Easter Island, and maybe Bimini Road in the Bahamas. You know, mix it up a bit. Oh well. |

Yeah. That was my thought. Machu Pichu (Black). The Great Pyramid (Yellow). Bimini Road/Atlantis (Blue). Stonehenge (Green). Nan Madol (Red).

"Make it so," yet another famous line rehashed and assimialted into the Voltron script. I'm sorry, but why have Coran say that to Allura just as he dies?
I hope that is definitely one scene that gets re-written. |

Yeah that seems like a rather heavy-handed and, frankly, just plain bad attempt at writing for a particular actor. Just a tip for would-be script writers: Don't do that. Casting is the job of the casting director.

I thought of that too, KBL. AlluraBlue4 and I were chatting on that, and it was almost like too recognizable for some reason. I mean, many of us here have likely seen Star Trek: TNG. So we'd likely recognize that as Picard's signature line; a distinquished Captain of Star Fleet. 'Make it so' just seemed out of place there. And why does Coran have to die? I don't like that. Main Character death is a no-no, especially if you're plotting for a sequel. ~AlluraP ~The Official Board Princess~ "Princess, you ride with me." --Keith, Voltron Force 2011 LONG LIVE KEITH AND ALLURA! http://alluraandkeith.homestead.com/ |

Yes, yes . . . double post.
___________________________________________ An exerpt I wanted to bring here for discussion. This was between KBL and Dexterryu. I think it has great validity and want to get it over on the offical thread.
Dexterryu, I appreciate your enthusiasm for Voltron. I wish some had such a vibrant love. Many of us do, but its not enough. I think you hit the nail right on the head - the stories are "same ol', same ol'" They most definitely need to be updated. For instance, why does Voltron have to win every battle? Can't he get his can kicked in once in a while? One of the things I did like about the cartoon was the showing how vulnerable the characters could be. (ie: Keith getting sliced a few times in three different eps, Hunk upset that he failed the team in another, Pidge getting hurt with his foot caught in a bear trap) I like the depth concept very much. I want to see who these guys are, and believe it or not, Justin was on the right track with character history. And we can't say that "Keith must be an orphan because that's the way it is." Says who? Or sure, we've all read fic where that is the case (even in mine). But whose to say that he didn't have a different background? But it should at least, be IC. (in character). Keith is a loner (Justin got that one right). Keith is NOT a guy who looks out only for himself and his own gain. That's not Keith. But what about this idea of depth and the characters? What sort of story ideas or character depth do you say describes the character? Forget the script for sec . . . what's your opinion? ~AlluraP ~The Official Board Princess~ "Princess, you ride with me." --Keith, Voltron Force 2011 LONG LIVE KEITH AND ALLURA! http://alluraandkeith.homestead.com/ |

Speaking of "out-of-character" actions, there is the whole matter of Pidge not speaking throughout the entire movie.
Now, I'm not in the military, so could someone please tell me how Pidge would be able to take part in the final battle in a robot lion and coordinate his attacks with the other four pilots without saying a word over the communications system? To me, that feels like a plot whole that Justin Marks didn't take the time to fill in. I still don't agree with the idea of Justin Marks penning the first draft of this movie, nor should he write He-Man and Street Fighter. I mean, they've given some big name 80s icons to a guy who's new to the world of Hollywood script writing. Like several ofus, he was a kid when most of the icons first came around, so he should know better than to stray too far from what really made the icons big. And just so no one gets the wrong impression, I'm all for updating but not recreating. Somethings can definitely change, other things can't. Pidge shouldn't be made mute. Eternia should not be some place on Earth (like a Lost World or something). Some aspect of the Drules true form should be shown (if only for a few moments) and not just their robeasts. |

The previous posts about Trek got me thinking, so allow me to play devil's advocate. (not the movie starring our 'Hell Keith' Keanu) If one thinks back a few years to when "Enterprise" premiered, one remembers the huge outcry from Trekkers (specifically a subgroup nicknamed bashers) over many aspects of that show:
1.Ship/tech too "fancy" it was set 100 years before Kirk, 200 before Picard, so why does their ship look so high tech. It was explained that those series were made 40 and almost 20 years ago, and if they had the tech, would look nicer. 2.Vulcans seem almost "adversarial" Vulcans, our long-time friends were portrayed as holding us back, hiding ulterior motives, It was explained that they didn't think humans were ready for deep space, and that the writers wanted to "flesh out" the race, instead of having them be the "Logical sounding board". I did think it went a little far, Vulcans almost seemed like villains in some episodes. 3.Show was too "sexy" The humans, especially the captain, seemed to always "think with the 'little captain'" and some of the themes were pretty racy. Proponents argued that the show was more 'real' and if TOS (The original Series) were made today the writers would've been able to do alot more, the show was pretty famous for Captain Kirk's "conquests" and the outfits of female castmembers on TOS often left little to the imagination. 3. Biggest complaint had to be the theme music...LYRICS? I mean we go from a stirring orchestra to a "sappy pop ballad"? The argument here was that the show was a radical departure and needed to reflect that. Having another rehash of TNG's/DS9's/ or Voyager's theme was seen as not good enough. (Plus I kind of *coughlikeitcough*) 4. Initially the show wasn't called "Star Trek: Enterprise" just "Enterprise". some Trekkers saw this as the last straw. With the fanbase so split, and many fans claiming they would never watch the show, Enterprise was in trouble, and only got mediocre ratings, therefore it was cancelled by the network (ouch cancelled by UPN!) So for the first time in 20 years we have no new Trek on TV. Some hardcore trekkers refused to let the show stand on its own, and so it failed. Okay so, I know, this isn't a Trek forum, and yes Enterprise didn't have Kirk or the original crew rehashed with only the names the same... it was a different ship with different people. Okay so the point as far as Voltron is concerned? Updating a franchise is not all bad, I know, I know, the script as is has almost nothing in common with the show... Didja ever say the sequence along with Keith and sound stupid when he said "Torso" instead of "Body"? |

You forget, my brother, that Enterprise never got very good ratings, and was subsequently cancelled.
Sure, some people like you liked it. I never could get into it because of how "not Star Trek" it was. By pretending to be Star Trek, it put me off of what might have been an otherwise good show. |
Enterprise was in trouble, and only got mediocre ratings, therefore it was cancelled by the network (ouch cancelled by UPN!) [/
Umm no I didn't, that was part of my point in fact! Also I point i neglected to make was that ENT pissed off the hardcore fans and failed. For whatever reason trekkers were more able to accept "Captain Hillary Clinton" (VOY's Janeway) than "Captain Sam Beckett" (ENT's Archer) Didja ever say the sequence along with Keith and sound stupid when he said "Torso" instead of "Body"? |
