So perhaps the movie will bring in new merchandise. Even if I don't see the movie, maybe they'll produce a Voltron Classics toyline as a tie-in.

Now, as promised, some nice things about the script.

I like the fact that Allura and Coran are still from Arus. It's a nice touch also that they are ancient. (I'm not sure why Sven is also from Arus.) This gives the legend of Voltron a feeling of agelessness. If the movie is going to be set on Earth, then transplanted Arusians is the next best thing to an Arus setting.

The exclusion of the Space Mice and Nanny is most welcome. I was afraid someone might throw them in as "comic relief". This is how we end up with crap like Jar Jar Binks.

Having the keys be the power source, and seemingly based on elemental (*Gasp!*) magic is good as well. Voltron is a fantasy/sci-fi like Star Wars, not a straight sci-fi like Star Trek. This is a good step toward that, and gives me hope that there are more elements of this.

There are a few things I dislike as well, and I'll go into those specifically and give reasoning later.

Yeah, I found there were two things that most seriously put me off to this script in the first place.

1) The reviewer comes off like a 12-year-old in his writing style. Very amateurish. This guy could make Citizen Kane sound like a piece of crap.

2) Any time I hear the word "post-apocalyptic", I immediately roll my eyes. It's been done to death, and every one of 'em comes off like a Mad Max clone.

Raiden's suspension comes a bit late, after we got our apology. I was ready to forgive the guy and listen to his opinion in a hopefully trash-talk free way. I hope he comes back after the suspension so we can have this discussion. Even though he came in here with a huge amount of negative energy, he did manage to get a few of us to re-read the script review, for good or bad. We'll continue the discussion without him, though.

And now, on with the discussion. For or against comments are all welcome so long as they are not nasty and insulting.

This reminds me of a scene from one of my favorite movies.

Scene: Arusian Senate. One of the senators, dressed in bed sheets, is addressing the senate.

Senator: Fellow senators. Should we continue bashing this script over and over until there is nothing left? Is it our nature to destroy the fabric of Justin Marks' self esteem while continuing an endless debate over the script, resulting in infighting and hurt feelings amongst the board members? Should we stop the bickering and support Marks in his script or merely leave it to the dogs? What say you?

Senate: F**K JUSTIN MARKS!

Seantor: Good.

Yeah, they don't just hand out scripts to guys that are going post information about them on the Internet. Now, often, they're intentionally leaked to generate a buzz or gauge reactions. I'm not sure what this is a case of, but I'm sure we'll find out at some point. From what I understand it was confirmed that it is the working script he's talking about in his review.

I think what put me off of the script the most was the complete overhaul of the characters. They changed everything about everybody. I can accept the change of location (don't want to, but I can). I can also accept the updating of the robot lions and the story line. But how can they completely change who the characters are, how they act, etc.

Exactly - an update is fine, but the characters and base storyline are established - don't change them without excessively good reason. If you do, then why not make Voltron be 4 lions instead of 5 (or any other such absurdity)?
