I have 2 eps of Denver that I put on DVD from a VHS tape I had bought at a garage sale, thing is I can't find out what episode number it is, the episode is called Chips and Robbers, BUT every site I've gone has no such episode listed, the ONLY episode with the word "chip" or "chips" in it is "In the Chips" Episode 2, is this the same episode or what? I'm a little confused.

The first segment on the "Chips N Robbers" VHS is Ep 2, "In the Chips".
But, boy oh boy, I CAN'T remember for the life of me what that second segment was! Therefore, I can't come up with the name of the episode.
I know it's been 18 years since "Denver" first came on TV, but MAN has it really been that long ago!?!
Age can do a number on your noggin.

Why is it called "Chips n Robbers" on the ep, but when you see an official ep list, it's "In the Chips"? Reminds me of a ep of SWAT Kats, where it has 2 different names for the same ep as well. *coughswatkatsunpluggedcough*

Before I try to explain, back in the 80s when VHS tapes of episodes of our favorite cartoon shows (and a certain live action show, which I'll get to in a minute) were released, you may remember that a good half of the different shows had the opening titles and theme, and the closing theme/end credits, to every episode....exactly like the DVDs of cartoon shows we enjoy today. VHS tapes that were given that special treatment included the original He-Man, She-Ra, Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers, and a few others.
And then there were those other shows in which they put the episodes together and made them out to be like a short- to mid-length movie (where you see the opening theme and closing credits only once). Such shows were Voltron, Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs, and.............Denver, the Last Dinosaur!
Why did Fries Home Video (pronounced frees) do what you described on the Denver VHS videos "Chips & Robbers", "Monster Maze and School Daze"?? I have no idea why! I guess Fries did that to simplify the names of the tapes so that parents could find them more easily. You wouldn't want to shop for a tape of DtLD called "'In the Chips' and 'the name of that other episode that I still can't think of!!!'". Smiler LOL!
You may remember that Sony Video did the very same thing with the "Voltron" VHS tapes. And, of course, we all remember the first videotape, "Castle of Lions", which was made into a movie-length version of the first four episodes of "Voltron".
To answer your question, companies like Fries were allowed to put their own title "Chips & Robbers" on the opening scene of "In the Chips", and they were given permission by WEP to do that. More precisely, when Fries duplicated the episodes onto VHS videotape, they just simply freeze the opening scene (on one frame) and use their Chyron (electronic graphics machine) to put "Chips & Robbers" onto the tape (which, of course, showed up as "Chips & Robbers" on the VHS videotape). And while all this was going on, you do hear the opening music (a harmonica, a woodwind, and I think a tuba) and then they unfreeze the frame and dissolve to the scene where you see Jeremy, Mario and Shades walk out the back porch of the house.
If you were to watch WEP's master tape of the episode "In the Chips", the electronic graphics would, of course, show up as "In the Chips".
And, of course, on the forthcoming "Denver" DVDs, you'll get to see every episode as they were originally broadcast..."In the Chips" and all!! Smiler
About that really cool live-action TV show that had episodes on VHS tape (which, by the way, each ep had the opening theme and titles and closing theme/end credits)...it was "Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future". Man, I loved that show!! I wish they would bring that out on DVD!!
ahhhhh the good old days......

I see. Thanks for all the help Jodi, I appreciate it. ANd I can't wait for the DVD's! For some reason what I did for the 2 eps came out as being pieces, "In the Chips" is 2 or 3 pieces instead of just one piece(No not the anime razz ) any idea on why this happened? When I was transferring the eps to DVD I made sure that it was going til the ep was finished. Is there a way to combine those pieces and re-burn them onto DVD?

I wouldn't be able to help you there, as I have never burned DVDs before. Also, I've never done any video editing of any kind.
My familiarity with the Fries example is just some background knowledge from my B.A. in Broadcasting days (about 20 years ago).
I never worked in broadcasting, actually. I'm now getting ready to start on my second Bachelors in Health Studies (for 2 years), then my Masters in Occupational Therapy (another 2 years). I will be a pediatric OT, and I look sooooo forward to working with my "babies"..er, uh, kids. Smiler
