I'm very happy to say that I received my copy of the first "Denver, the Last Dinosaur" DVD today (6 October 2007).
To answer some of your questions (Tridragon's question in particular), the entire "Denver" series (total of 52 episodes) WILL all be released on multiple DVDs throughout the next several months.
This DVD of the first 10 episodes, including the one-hour pilot episode, does not disappoint in video and audio quality. Indeed, a great work of re-mastering in all respects.
I used Sony's BDP-S300 Blu-Ray Disc/standard DVD player (which upconverts standard DVDs like this one very beautifully) with Sony's KDL-V32XBR2 Bravia LCD television (which was Imaging Science Foundation calibrated). The BD/DVD player was hooked up to Pioneer Elite's VSX-52 home theater receiver. I listened to this DVD using just the stereo mode (2.0 channels).
I watched the pilot episode and "In the Chips".
You'll be glad to know that the video quality is practically flawless. You will notice some film grain, but is never distracting. Considering these prints are nearly 20 years old, the re-mastering job was very well done and with great care. Watching this with the clarity it had, film grain and all, made for a viewing experience not only matched by remembering having watched the original broadcasts, but also an experience made even better than the broadcasts by revealing it's accurate colors and overall production qualities such as editing and the animation sequences, both the 2-D drawn sequences and Calico's 3-D rotoscoped fx sequences.
The audio, which was originally a Dolby Stereo mix, is also rendered very well on this first "Denver" DVD effort. Voice characterizations come through cleanly and without distortion, and sound effects are very well rendered. The overall sound is robust and clean. I am very sure a subwoofer (which was not used in this eval) will make for even more convincing sounding bass (in scenes like rumbling volcanoes and roaring T-rex's). The music of Dale Schacker comes through with a very lively sounding presence. The stereo music is well-rendered, as are the stereo sound effects. The "ping-pong game" sequence on the pilot ep was a good example of good stereo separation in terms of sound effects, and overall the sound effects separation is good, if not a revelation.
As for content, all the eps have the opening theme/opening titles AND the closing theme/end credits. All episodes are very well edited. Interestingly, only the pilot ep had the "commercial bumpers" throughout; the bumpers are not to be found on the remaining eps.
Here's to a great start for "Denver" on DVD, and I look forward to receiving more DVDs of our "friend and a whole lot more" in the months ahead.

Jodi

I did take a look at "Denver Around the World".
It's between 5 - 10 minutes of clips of "Denver" in other languages. The video quality is rather rough looking, considering the sources for these foreign clips are most likely from old videotapes.

I am very sure that "Denver Karaoke" (which I did not see) is the theme song with the words on screen and you sing along with it.

WEP trailers have only 2 trailers: "Saber Rider" and "Vytor" (movie version).

Thanks Jodi I made those DVDs myself as you know. Yes I would have loved to have put more extras at a higher bit rate but though more episodes would always be the way to go. I was literally fighting for each bit to stuff in there.

The good news is the menu and extras for Vol.2 is already done and if the decent sales keep up Vol.2 should follow soon!

It will include a character art slide show and more...

Thanks for being fans!

I'm glad you're impressed with my review.
I do hope that the sales for Vol. 1 continue to be good so that we can get a Vol. 2 (at least).
I do fieldwork at a pre-Kindergarten school, where I am doing very well with it. It's for my psychology course called "Infancy and Childhood". I am very proud to say that I am, at least, more than halfway tempted to order another copy of "Denver Vol. 1" and donate it to the school. The kids there need to see what REAL TV is like!!!!!!! Smiler
Mr. Admin., I'll let you know if and when I do it!! Smiler
