I just bought this real nice Voltron 1 toy. Only problem is, I cant seem to take him apart from waist up starting up on the mid section above the black piece.
I cant take it apart so im not trying. The jet, the head...aye! Im sure you guys here know how. Any help would be appreciated. Old toys bring back lost memories like pieces to a puzzle that holds the origin to my life. -Nar www.narcomics.net |

There are small latches on the side/back of the vehicle that is the torso/chest. These latches will release the upper arms.
The vehicle that is the torso/chest has a red "button" at the centre of it. Press it to remove the head. You'll have to remove the "jet" vehicle from the chest first to be able to press the red "button". With taking off the "jet" vehicle, just pull it off but do it gently and don't hold a light, easily breakable part of the "jet" when you attempt to pull it off. |

BTW, Is the real Voltron 1 supposed to be made of plastic? Because I thought it would have metal parts.

The Matchbox set is plastic.
The Japanese set has die-cast parts I believe. |

Ahhhh ok. Yeah, because i couldve sworn it had metal when I was a kid. Maybe it was too expensive for matchbox?
hmm.. well atleast they didnt do that with the lions. Still kicks butt. Thanks for the info dude! Old toys bring back lost memories like pieces to a puzzle that holds the origin to my life. -Nar www.narcomics.net |

Keep in mind not all the Japanese sets were die cast. Some were, others weren't. I've seen some Dairuggers that were plastic, and some that were not. Just keep a keen eye out, and when you see a Die cast one, prepare to empty your wallet.

Yea I remember now, finding one online but it wasnt the same size as the Matchbox release. The details were that it was mostly die cast with plastic like the Go Lion, but the wheels didnt have rubber on them and it did come apart completely into their separate vehicles. Actually, I think I still have the pic. Lemme find it. A buddy of mine debated that there wasnt a full sized one like the matchbox that had die cast metal parts. Only the smaller versions were. But if there is one out there in full size...i bet that thing is HEAVY!! Old toys bring back lost memories like pieces to a puzzle that holds the origin to my life. -Nar www.narcomics.net |

Yup, found the pics. Daicast but smaller in scale, Dairugger XV ....name sounds like a vacum cleaner. haha.

That Dairugger XV figure is 8" tall. It's head doesn't separate (along with the shoulders) and the upper legs don't separate from the lower legs. There have been bootlegs of this toy also (I've seen one with chrome painted upper legs).
That was $13 back in 1984. To find a Lion Voltron of the same scale (1/350), you buy the LJN motorized Voltron Force (also 8" tall). -Mark |

Ahh ok. That actually explains why those parts dont have wheels like the rest of him. I wonder why they didnt go all the way with it and just make everything come apart. No problem!
The Bandai model kit of Dairugger XV (the one in the large box that says 1/350 scale and NOT 1/500 scale) can actually separate into the 15 vehicles. I've placed it next to the 8" diecast Dairugger XV and they are nearly the same height. They're still around and cost no more than $13 U.S. (anyone who wants more is trying to rip you off!). Retail it cost 1000 Yen if you order from Japan but your local Chinatown might have them (or Ebay). The problem is taking the time to paint and build it. Luckily, it's molded in white. Being busy most of the time, I got my younger brother to put together that kit. I think it took 5-6 hours after the paint dried. I'm trying to remember if it has a sword or not (I've been away from New York way too long!). -Mark |
