I purchased this blue lion on eBay a few years ago. Not much information about it was given. I assumed it was a large-scale knock-off. When it arrived, I was very suprised as to the quality of the item. I wonder if anyone recognizes the toy and might help me find other pieces for it. The big deal is its size. It is 11.5" long and 5" tall standing (3" with legs folded in). It is made of plastic. The blue plastic almost has a glitter look to it on close inspection. The legs and top head are good chrome. The cockpit cover is dark transcluent blue that opens to a a very nice cockpit area. The missle launcher has springs in it to fire missles and appears to have working functions when I press a button on the side. There is a possible bomb bay in the bottom of the lion that opens when you push a button on top. There is a battery compartment and button that would light up the eyes I'm guessing. The back of the lion has the door flap to combine with the Black lion. The lower jaw is missing, but looks like it just popped out.
The Blue Lion you have there is from the oversized Voltron released by Trendmasters back in 1999. I personally haven't seen one other than in pics, but from what I've read about it, yes, it is of remarkably high quality. They did an excellent job of staying faithful to the original Voltron/Golion design, while upscaling the whole thing large enough for each Lion to hold a 3 3/4" action figure.
Here is a nice review that was posted on Robot-Japan a couple of months ago:
Hello, I was able to get my hands on this MIB. I opened it, but did not remove any of the straps holding it in place or anything. It really is interesting. If you tell me how, I will post you a picture.
