Hey guys. =]

I recently was looking at this listing here Bandai Golion set which sold at a very nice price (even though the black lion's neck pieces was cracked, its very easy to replace) and I sent the seller a question in which he responded and posted on his listing. The question was regarding the yellowing on red lion's head.
It was hard to tell if it was actually yellowed or a bad shot with the lighting.
In fact, being a photoshop addict myself, it almost looks like he set the contrast level really high to eliminate as much yellow as possible.
Anywho, i was interested in this item and would have spent over 200 for it in its condition.
But, when i repsponded to his response, I told him that the yellowing might have occured from exposure to sunlight or even a lamp near by the toy itself. He was like "uh.. no, i dont think so. But I dont want to argue..".

LOL
Geez! Anywho, fact is, a lamp lit right above any white plastics on a voltron set in particular can and will discolor them. Sunlight is also a known issue. Oxidization as well.

I was a little turned off by the seller's attitude and took the listing off my watch list. Any of you ever had a funky experience like this or worse?

hvn't had a bad experience like that so far... hey japanbot, it seems these godaikin red n green lions don't have the telltale chromed midsections n tails that the popy has... another legit version?...they seem to have sharp teeth... i've seen a couple of other godaikin sets that are similar, but they weren't as clear pics as these, so i wasn't sure...

anyways, here's another godaikin... checkout that price!...*faints...

I was watching that, too, and I backed off after seeing that response. You see the yellowing on a lot of red lions, but certainly not all of them the way the seller seemed to be trying to justify it. My poor old red lion is beat-up and broken, but his jaws are still white. Smiler

You've got to love sellers who don't know what they're talking about.

jubei: Bandai Godaikin Golions are legit. They were sold a little later in the US, but they are the same as the original Popys except for the chromed middles and tails.

Right you are Hedgemaze. Those Bandai's come in 2 variants. Regardless, both have working missle launchers and complete with all their weapon accessories.
The first variant thats most common, have only the middle part of the mid section chromed and not the entire mid section. The other variant doesnt seem to have any chrome at all.
But they all have sharp teeth.
One seller told me that there was a set in which the sharp teeth were dulled down for safety issues but it made very little sense to me when the set still had all those missles and working launchers intact. Its very easy to switch heads from different sets.

The listing i posted above also had one very strange thing going with the red lion's mid section. I noticed it was identical to the green lion. Both rounded.
And most if not all voltron sets, the red lion is supposed to have more of a straight square like mid section while the green has more of a rounded feature. Could it be a small case of switching parts? Who knows..
But if im about to pay big dollars, im going to make sure im getting the one most identical to the box art/pic.

hey japanbot... found a godaikin on ebay right now that has NO sharp teeth.. except from the blue lion... the strange thing is the black lion looks to be a legit godaikin black lion as it has the tell-tale yellow buttons on the side to launch missiles... the whole set looks to be in real good condition but it's waaaayyyy out of my budget... any insights?...

Actually Jubei the blue lion does have the sharp teeth, look a little closer. How would I know you ask? Because I'm the one selling it. For future reference a "Japanese Golion" has sharper teeth than a "Godaikin" which has sharper teeth than a "Matchbox". Again how do I know? Because I have 3 "Japanese Golions"(one 1st edition with chrome tails and joints, one 2nd edition with no chrome MISB and one in between with half of the joint chromed) I have 4 Godaikin golions( all complete with unopened accessory packs). I also have 3 Lionforce voltrons all gb-36 and two are still sealed. There are many variations of the godaikin version. Some have sharp teeth all the way around others just the blue, yellow, and black lion have sharp teeth. This happend because of the Bandai/Popy transition in the early 80's. Godaikins were never sold with red and green lions that had chrome joints and tails. They were from the first edition Popy Golion and were long out of production when the Godaikin line rolled out. I assure you this set was purchased originally like this. It is just one of the variants. I make many trips to Japan every year to buy Chogokins and buy them from trustable sources. Judging a godaikin just by the teeth on the lions is not enough to make a decision. By the way all of the lions have sharp teeth except the Red and Green. Hope this helps

hi chogokinsoul!... u have THREE golions?!... wow!...actually i did notice that the blue lion had sharp teeth, that's why i said 'except for the blue lion'... i just assumed the yellow lion had no sharp teeth as well since the pics of it were all with it's mouth closed... from the pics the black lion also looked like it has blunt teeth, although it might be a case of blurry pics... anyways thanks for all that info, it's always cool for me learning more about golions... much appreciated...

i also noticed u had a popy golion up for sale as well... a real fine looking set... wish i could afford it, but i'm sure it's gonna go way high up and fetch a good price for u... good luck!... Smiler

No problem Jubei anything I can do to educate. Yes the yellow lion does have the sharp teeth I just can't get the mouth to stay open for a pic. If you have anymore questions please let me know. I also have a large Dairugger XV collection as well but we will save that for another day. Glad to help.

can you PM me a link to your ebay store? I'd rather purchase from a fellow forums member next time i'm on the hunt for my Voltron Collection.

This is a Toynami production it is made of PVC, still fully transformable and molded from the Masterpiece set. It is the next addition to the Toynami Voltron line. I think they are selling it on this site for $49.99 allthough it does come with the Voltron soundtrack.

I ordered mine from WEP earlier in the week.

No it is I have a few cases of these coming in the first week of August. I have a wholesale agreement with a distributor Enterntainmentearth.com it is the same molding as the Masterpiece; just made of PVC not diecast and not numbered. Just to the sight to check it out for yourself.
