A good tutorial to remove the arms, however, this method can also scrape the paint from the arms and the gold plated chrome on the black lion's shoulders.
The reason why on some sets, the arms get locked in place what almost feels permanently, is because the the lock sculpt on the tails of both red and green lion become slightly damaged through much playwear and the metal rods inside black lion's shoulder pieces also seems to corrode in time, no longer being as flexible as it once was when it was new out of box. The sculpt around the tail parts have edges which locks the small metal bars inside the Black Lion's shoulder pieces. The metal bars are straight like 2 thick needles tucked in the holes to lock the arms in place. When new, the arms should pop off without any trouble. But sometimes, through playwear, those pieces (the red and green lion's tails) will begin to form jagged edges which then denies the unlocking from constant pulling out and popping back in. Solution? Get an exacto knife and shave off (very carefully and lightly) the deep or jagged plastic residue from the tails of green and red lion. Its really not difficult at all and your not making any severe visual changes to the toys. I actually had to perform this operation last night with my Matchbox Voltron that just came in the mail. The parts are now removeable without using too much force but also lock in place without any looseness. |

First, excuse my tardiness.
True Father: Not my hands, I wanted to control the camera to ensure the picture was what I wanted. Japanbot: Good points, but the gold plated chrome on Black Lion is never in danger. When I did it, the red or green lion never actually touch the body of the black lion. It's to basically un hitch the tail from it's connector. Plus, I'm going to go on a limb here, but a lot of people might be a little hesitant on scraping/smoothing the tail with a knife unless they have good experience in model building, etc. For the casual person, the method I posted off my website stands as a pretty good one. |

Ahhh, touche my fellow collector. Good points. I just tried your method slightly different from my first attempt, while pulling at the arms this time and i just realized you were right. They dont scrape. Seems you have to be very careful though. And yeah, my method of shaving should probably be left to hobbyists.

Hey all, I'm new to this board, but saw I can contribute possibly. In the Popy Golion DX set, there is an addendum sheet (black & white) tucked into the instruction manual, that shows their recommendation of the "angled pull" procedure back in the day. I guess I'll try to scan, and photobucket the image onto a post later. Hope that's cool.

Very awesome indeed. Now why didn't that little gem come with all the sets?

Cool! How ironic that it is exact of what I put up, and I never saw that before today.
Hey repairtechjon, do you mind if I use this image on my site for others to see? Not many have the set you do. |

Hey K2, be my guest. I'd have to say it's a simple pic of one engineer's idea, and not definitive, though. I can see where wearing of a groove into the lion's tails, or a sticky spring clip, could need the method mentioned of opening the black lion shoulder, and prying the spring inside with a tool.
But it's cool to see they even dealt with the issue, though there's no mention in the US Godaikin Golion instruction book. |
