All - First time posting, but have been visiting for a while. Good to see Voltron is alive and well. After seeing the transformers movie, I cant wait to see what the do with Voltron.

Anyway, I was looking into purchasing one of the voltron toys released over the years. I have seen the new masterpiece edition (reviews havent been too good from what I have seen), the trendmasters from 1997 and the old matchbox edition on ebay. I was wondering what everyone thought the best one would be to purchase? It is not going to be played with as a toy or handled too much. I am going to look for one of the plastic ones with the figures for my son to play with.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you ever read the script reviews, you'll probably change your tune.

I'd say get the Masterpiece set on the basis that it's quite poseable and looks good.

Thanks! I will check out that one.

I did read the script reviews. I am obviously completely upset it is not consistent with the original story line, but I will wait and see if they do something with it to make it a little closer before I completely get pissed. I understand there is always going to be some format of making the storyline a little more "modern" but it doesnt seem to be going overboard a little at this point.

One word to describe the Masterpiece Voltron: awesome. That's one to get.

I also love the Matchbox Voltron III Japan version. I fell in love with it when I was a kid back in the mid 80's.

You can't go wrong with either one of those. I have both displayed side by side and they are awesome.

Question on the matchbox version. I saw in a previous post on here when talking about bootlegs that the blue lion did not have any white on it in the original matchbox or japan versions, only on bootlegs. However, every single one I see on ebay has the white on the blue lion, even if they are in the matchbox box, or not.

The one I bought (not for a heck of a lot of money if not legit) has the star belt, the silver sticker that says GB-36 1981 Y&K, etc. came with directions that are from matchbox, but it has the white spots on the blue lion.

I am just confused about the white on the blue lion as was wondering if that was misquoted and the matchbox versions do actually have the white spots on there. Or I just read the original post wrong one or the other.

After all my rambling, I am just wondering if I have the actual matchbox version or not. Thanks!!

You got the legit Matchbox Voltron III Japan version man! Voltron has the yellow star belt, silver stickers under each lion that say: GB-36 1981 Y&K Made in Japan with Japanese writing, and the Blue Lion DOES have white paint on it. Excellent choice!!

Thanks. Unfortunately I broke it like an idiot trying to remove the red lion. The arms were reversed and I wanted to fix it for display. I could easily get a red lion to replace it and all would be good but the tail is stuck in there and the green lion wont budge at all no matter what I do. I have tried what the tutorial said on here and neither worked so I am lost at this point. My choice now are either buy a new version and just make sure I confirm with the seller that you can take it apart or now that this is broken anyway, try to take it apart and see what I can do. I am totally bummed.

Sorry to hear that - it is a bummer. But hopefully you'll have one that's fully functional in no time. The green lion arm probably isn't coming out since someone else had previously put it in wrong. Usually the tutorial on here works great (just to let you know for the future when you get another one). Try to see if you can fool with it to get the green lion arm out and the red lion tail that's stuck. For the red lion tail, maybe try a tweezer or something to get a hold of it to pull it out. Try the black hatch above the arm(flips up; this is where the black lion chrome leg is tucked when transformed) and see if you can see the tail or grab it with a tweezer from the top. Not sure if you can get in there or see the tail from there as I don't wanna fool with mine but it's worth a check. The green lion, just try to twist, turn, do what you can to pull it out. If all else fails, like you said you can buy another or just the black, red, and green lions since you already have the yellow and blue that are ok. Good luck - keep us posted.

Well, good news. After some serious patience (which I never have) I actually took the black lion apart and was able to get the arms removed and get it back together rather easily. I figured I would give it a shot as I would have had to replace them anyway. It was what I suspected, they were pushed in too far, past the metal clips that actually hold the arm in place. All is good now, I bought a red lion to replace the one I broke. I scratched it slightly where the lion comes out of the arm, but not too much.

Thanks for your help!!

That is good news - glad to hear you fixed it! If all that happened was a scratch near the outer arm hole, I'd say you did a real good job of fixing it. It could be a battle scar.
