My seventh entry of the Voltron Songfic Challenge is up. Only three more in my album and I'm done!
Since my theme was all Doomite backstories, this one featured Zarkon, Lotor, and Hagar. After Hagar insults the memory of his dead mother, a young Lotor plot his revenge with his sister on the Day of Dhmfidr, the Day of the Dead. I cranked the dysfunction-o-meter up to 11 on this one No graphic violence or anything like that, more like psychological horror kinda stuff. All comments welcome, even from spambots!

Just got through reading "Cossack Ascends the Throne" by Cheezey. Wasn't sure what to expect, was leaning toward more of a 'King for a day' theme. But realistically, Zarkon would never hand his throne over to anyone, even in jest, so what happened was pretty much what should have happened...

What a wicked-cool sense of humor. Scary to imagine what Cossack's original bathroom looks like, though.

I've never been much of one for songfics. Don't read them very much. But after looking at this chapter, I plan to read the whole 'album'. I liked this chapter a lot. The details of the holiday had a very realistic ring to it. Hagar's 'trip' after drinking the Libation was...well, unique, to say the least.

And on a completely different note...Zarkon on Hash Brownies is still hilarious.

Thank you so much, AlluraP and Zejan! I'm glad you liked the details I added about the holiday. A long time ago, I brainstormed on a holiday and had it stuffed in a folder on my PC, forgotten until I went through it, and it just clicked. Somehow on a planet with >50% terrain barren-looking, a plant is harder to come by so would be more sacred and valuable. And I don't think there's many Centipede Goddesses around in mythology I've read, so I went with it, inspired by that cool splitting spaceship/robeast that got blown up by the plasma cannon. Ancient civilizations put the likenesses of their deities on ships and buildings, so I think the King would rock something similar (*cough*ego*cough*).

Yeah, songfics can be hard to read if you aren't into them. There's a variation of it where nearly the entire fic is the song itself with maybe two lines of prose added. Gets a few ?? out of me. Has to be at least 50% prose for it to count as a songfic, otherwise it's just an annotated song. The 'album' is an anthology, so there's no linearity, so you can read them in any order you want. Some take place before others and may allude to each other, but you don't need to read any one of them before the other. I tend to read anthologies, even same-Universe ones, in a mish-mash, makes it more of a fun read. I hope you like some of the others

Yeah, Hagar's trip is interesting. No one told her to go with the flow, hehe. But, how much of it is retribution and how much of it is her own personal demons? Up to the reader, hehe. I also made Z go either way: is he being nice to his kids, or just making things easier for himself while getting a kick outta the fact that he has surreptitiously undermined the pious worship of their mothers? I think I've made the schmuck too sympathetic. He's still a manipulative dude, I may have to crank it up a notch in future stories.

Yeah, a Z on Brownies is a grand fun time. Wonder how he'd feel about Salvia? Hmm, maybe that was in the Libation *snickers*

Hmmm...I myself thought he set it all up so the kids would do the dirty work and he would appear blameless in Hagar's eyes. Or would he really care about that? I dunno.

I didn't think him to be soft at all - it seemed more like he was casually maneuvering things around in his typically detached fashion in order to appear blameless to both parties. I myself thought Hagar was the one who destroyed the plants up until the end. Things were getting rather twisty-turny for a bit and Hagar's trip didn't help any. When the smoke cleared I was debating Zarkon's hand in it all, but it definitely seemed to me he was playing all ends against the middle.

I dunno...I think he's just fine the way he is. Giving him a touch of positive makes for a bit of appeal in what would otherwise be a typical nasty despot.

I'm actually in the process of inking more Clipboard, hoping to pick SGB's brain for some VV pages I'd like to add into the mix (because PP Krik is too dang cute). Takes me a little bit to get started, but once I do the momentum sweeps me along.

Once Clipboard is done, I want to create some images from my fave Elevator Lance chapters - assuming that KBL doesn't throw rocks at me. After that, it's the semi-illustrated Lion Tales. Stay tuned.

Let's just say that by the time she'd done with the Voltron Commander, she'll have earned a nod to be a candidate for entrance into the 'Doomite Nasties Society'.

Uh-oh! Poor Keith, guy's all torn up. And Allura's situation gets worse and worse. Excellent writing. I like the little placements of the Drule dialect here and there. That guard is an eerie dude. I hope Allura can at least give him a quick kick in the yam bags when he does try something, though I hope he doesn't succeed in violating her
