What happened to his mother? I heard somewhere that Allura looked similar to her. Did Lotor ever know her before she died?

Nothing was really said about Lotor's mother in Voltron canon. In the original Golion anime they showed her in some flashbacks, but when it was dubbed as Voltron those scenes were written as references to Allura.

Fans generally go with the assumption that Lotor lost his mother at a young age and borrow the concept from Golion that she looks similar to Allura, however.

Which can be spun into a whole lot of weird Oedipus scenarios.

I would like to know more about his mother. Even though she was beautiful, was she sweet and kind or was she as tyrannical as Zarkon?

Most assumptions seem to be that she was kind hearted.

I think the woman in Lotor's dream was his mother, because the blonde chick in the straight hair was a different person from Allura. There's no way Allura's appearance could've been altered.

It also shown a scene in his dream where Zarkon grabs her face & carries her off.

The whole part with Lotor's mother should've been explored more in depth.

If we get lucky with a new cartoon...hopefully Lotor's mom will be covered.

For real. I plan to see about bringing the original Voltron series back by writing new eps & continuing where 72 left off.

This would be a great time to do this, since Lotor & Zarkon are fighting along with Merla convincing him to becoming good.

In my Snoop Dogg/Voltron fanfic, Lotor's mother is very much covered in depth.

Lotor along with a former female servant named Lamora are wandering in Lotor's command ship thru space. Lotor gazes out the cockpit window & Lamora comes up to him with a stack of photos & albums that she found. She gives them to Lotor & he pages thru the album & then finds the pic of him & his mother. He pretty much stares at it with sadness & grief along with pouting over Allura refusing him repitiously. Poor Lotor.

He thinks about his mother & wishes to find out what happened to her & where she came from. Merla sometime in the fanfic helps him discover his mother's home planet, so she comes to Earth where Lotor is & takes him to this ditant planet of his mother.

When Lotor along with Merla, Snoop Dogg, Hazar, & Dorma arrive on this planet, he discovers her along with reuniting with his true family. He stays there for good, especially since he's technically speaking, the ruler of this planet. Why would he want to go back to Doom, cuz I wouldn't.

The only time he goes back to Doom is to kick Zarkon's butt.

In reference to Lotor's Mother, the woman in Lotor's dream was his mother. She was really beautiful. Like they say, there's somereason Lotor was a hottie.

It's been long established that the woman in his dream was his mother. The only reason there was any confusion was because of the footage from GoLion being used in Voltron. At the time of the original airing, not many in the US were familiar with GoLion and wouldn't have known that it was his mother instead of Allura in that footage.

I thought I read somewhere that's why Lotor went after Allura in Golion he thought she was his mother I think.

I think it was less that he thought she was his mother and more of the resemblance between the two.

As Freud would say, he was obssessed with his mother, almost in love with her and saw Allura as a manifestation of her.

Poor Lotor. He misses his Mommy. That's one reason he wants Allura so bad. He wants his Mommy to tuck him in, read bedtime stories, & take care of him again.

I wonder whatever happened to his Mother. Man, why didn't the series explore that issue more in detail.

Heck, it would've been nice if they'd mentioned Lotor's mother at all in Voltron (as opposed to the generally accepted fanon pulled from Golion). The only strictly-Voltron canon info we can really glean is that she was human, because Taybor is Zarkon's nephew and he's human. But even then, that's just a presumption, and an argument could be made that he's biologically Zarkon's nephew and not his former wife's. It'd be a larger stretch in plausibility, but realism isn't something we expect too much of in a series where space mice can save the day anyway.
