Out of all the Doom characters, Cossack was my personal favorite. But frankly, I think he got the short end of the stick in terms of development and characterization.

He added comic relief to the bad guys, which is always nice but I think he could have been utilized more.

He is Cossack the Terrible, yet most of his scenes shows him being undermined or made fun of.

quote:

Why does everybody pick on me?
--Cossack

If anyone on the Doom side is misunderstood, it would be Cossack.

n my fanfic, I try to justify his comedic side and merely being a front when around the others. In reality, he's far more cunning and deadly and merely uses his comedic role to prevent the others from discovering his true plans.

Granted, that portrayal isn't canon (as it is a fanfic) but I feel it helps justify his behavior in the show. I would love to have seen Cossack being a little more of a threat to the VF.

Best Cossack on the net!

I have no problems with your Mary-Sue if cannon supports it.

The cannon supports about 180 pounds if fired correctly.

Thanks for the plug, Coldy. Wink

I agree that they overdid the comic relief aspect of Cossack's role to an unfortunate point, where a lot of fans tend not to look past the snarky and sometimes corny lines and not take him seriously.

Yet, he can't be that dumb, because otherwise how did he wind up in charge of Doom's military under the royalty? Neither Zarkon nor Lotor are dummies, and neither would allow someone they thought was an utter moron to have that much power in their hierarchy.

So that leads me to think that Cossack may not be book-smart or have the specialized knowledge that Haggar does with magic and science, but is a good soldier and charismatic enough as an officer to have his subordinates (flesh and robot alike) willingly follow his orders. Cossack strikes me as the type who could easily get the trust of the "pleb" type soldiers of Doom, he's one of the guys, he cracks jokes, and while he does his job he is pretty laid back and doesn't take everything too seriously.

Episodes like "War, Peace, and Doom" and "Little Buddies" show that Cossack can be ruthless. If he was dumb, he wouldn't have been able to dupe Kruger and successfully manipulate him into kicking the VF to the curb, allowing them to take over the planet. Did he crack jokes while he did it? Sure. It just shows he enjoys his job and can roll with the punches. ("Maybe this time they won't form Voltron...") In "Little Buddies" he was willing to have the robots blast the kids' heads off if Hunk didn't surrender to him. That doesn't sound like a guy who isn't a real threat to me...

I always got a kick out of his quotes.

"Did u'r Mother tell u to stay away from people like me?"

"Lotor, let me do it."

Whatever he says when talkin about telling Merla off or calling her on the phone.

Oh & not to mention something about reforming evil characters again, but does anyone think Cossack would become a good guy? I ask that due to the fact he has a laid back personality.

And I don't recall if I ever said this in another post, but Cossack pretty much lightened up Lotor in a few cases.

1. The toad brain joke.

2. Lotor sitting on top of the throne after asking Cossack why he was put in charge of the throne.

I don't know if I've mentioned this in another post, but if I've repeated it, my bad.

If ANY Doom character could become good, it's possibly Cossack. Though, I'm not sure what would make him do that though.

Maybe the constant beratings by Zarkon and Lotor would make him decide to become good and jump ship from Doom.

Zarkon: "Cossack, you're an idiot!"

Lotor: "An imbecile!"

*Cossack strains to hold in the annoyance and anger at being put down but can't suppress it*

Cossack: "THAT'S IT!!! I"ve had it with being put down and mocked all the time!!! 'Cossack, you're a loser', 'Cossack, you're a butt wipe', things like that! I'm fed up with it!!!"

*Zarkon and Lotor look at each other in surprise*

Cossack: "I'm fed up with you all! I QUIT!!!"

*Cossack tears off his Doom badge, tosses it to the ground and turns around with his arms folded, his body language saying 'screw you!'*

*Zarkon and Lotor look at each other again ... then raise their guns and promptly shoots Cossack*

Nice job on turning Cossack into Waspinator.

Kudos for picking up on that. Wink

I was wondering if anyone would realise I had parodied a Beast Wars scene.

Not just any scene, but one of the scenes from the finale of Beast Wars. Particularly, just before Megatron blasts the canyon where the proto-humans live. Inferno and Quickstrike (who shot Waspinator) were destroyed in the blast.

I loved Waspinator. Cossack is very similar to him.

It's probably my second-favourite scene in the whole series (the first being the scene where Rhinox realises Waspy is creeping up behind him and then turns and blasts him with his "chaingun of doom").

Imagine the end of the Voltron series ...

*Cossack sitting atop Zarkon's throne*

Cossack: "Cossack happy at last."

Waspinator was great. He was abused so much but you couldn't help but love the character.

My all-time favorite episode was in season 1 when Starscream's ghost took over Waspinator's body.

For a somewhat primative CGI show, Beast Wars had the best in characterization and dialogue, even if it wasn't true G1.

There's no reason why V3D couldn't have been more like that.

Again, Cossack is one of those characters that you gotta love even if he is a bad guy. He's one of the few good things about S2.

That was an excellent episode.

Shame Chris Latta died several years before the episode was made. It would have been great if they had managed to get him back for Beast Wars.

Waspinator was like Kenny on South Park. Every episode he got shot, sliced, diced, burned, blown up, or squished.

I agree that it would have been awesome to have Chriss Latta reprise Starscream for that episode.

It reminds me of the episode in season 3 of G1 when Tracks was stolen. One of the villains was voiced by Latta. At the end of the episode, his character is walking away down the street and he says: "They just don't make terrorists like they use to. Cobra Forever!"

You realize that the main villain's side kick was a post-GI Joe Cobra Commander. A nice cross-over

Tracks wasn't in that episode.

The episode you speak of is the one where Rodimus Prime, Springer, Ultra Magnus and Arcee became humans.

Well, that just goes to show that I need to go back and re-watch those dvds. Thanks for the correction. I wonder which episode I was remembering then.
