Hey, I've been working on an episode where Lotor finds out that Zarkon wasn't his true Father. He had been stolen from a King of another planet when his mother was captured by Zarkon.

I find this topic rather interesting & liked to hear others' point of view.

How would Lotor react to this discovery?

I'd say he would be ready to have revenge against Zarkon & definitely want to see his butt at the end of his sword.

If Lotor wasn't his real son, I'm pretty sure Zarkon wouldn't put up with him.

Yeah, but Zarkon puts up with him to cover up his scheme, plus if he's always victimizing Lotor the way he does, then he must not be able to put up with him too much.

If Lotor found out that Zarkon wasn't his real father, then he would more or less confront Zarkon about it (albeit, in a real sneaky, Doomy way). However, once Zarkon realized that Lotor knew, Zarkon would probably have Lotor eliminated in order to keep the situation quiet.

If Lotor found out about the scheme - and Zarkon wasn't aware he found out -

one way or another, Lotor would rain terrible vengence upon Zarkon.

Or at least try.

I don't think his feelings would be hurt. Obviously, the Doomite sense of "love" and "loyaltee" are quite different from our understanding.


If he could get the upper hand, he'd have Zarkon tortured to death.

It's an interesting thought. Considering his position, adopting a successor isn't such a horrible idea; heirless Roman emperors did it in the past (and it happened to work out better than choosing by genetic relation). However, Lotor's repeated attempts on Zarkon's life, and "Right of Might" challenge in one of the eps makes Lotor a HUGE liability; if Lotor was merely a simple successor, Zarkon would've killed him then and there, no need for contemplation (I would). I'm sure there's plenty of potential successors who would be far more loyal (look at Yurak, more loyal than Lotor ever was). The fact that he puts up with Lottie makes me think he does care about him, even just a little bit, for more than pure political reasons.

If Zarkon snatched the son, keeping it secret would be very difficult, unless the planet he annexxed is not well known (and in that case, why even bother from his POV? Cloning technology is present, why not clone himself an heir, or genetically engineer one?). Lotor's bloodline was royal in this case, perhaps even moreso than a "pirate king," that's a card to display and play for all it's worth. It's stupid to keep it secret; technically, a ruthless tyrant raising another man's son as his own gives a positive spin to his image, and showcases his statesmanship, IMHO.

If Lotor was offered as a form of treaty or alliance or gesture of goodwill on behalf of his parents (royal marriages were done this way, why not a successor to an entire Empire, you family is catapulted to the top of the regime and no massive planetary damages, hooray) , then that's an incentive to tolerate Lotor, especially if the planet is an economic, agricultural, or military powerhouse. If Lotor was made aware of this arrangement throughout his life, it could be used to support his issues and so forth.

I have seen pretty people have ugly parents and vice versa, so I like to think they have a blood relation, with no Maury paternity tests in the future


As per Iris, if it is "a mega secret" and Lotor realizes it, he could be infuriated, confused, and concerned. It suggests if Lotor is not Zarkon's blood son that Doom's nobility, and presumably the Drule Imperial Administration, would not consider any valid "birthright" to the throne. It implies that he would lose support in the court; he would have to rally up an army solely loyal to his succession, which would be very difficult if this was a scandal. He would have to tread lightly, VERY lightly, for he is more likely to be executed at any time. The best thing for Lotor to do would be to keep it secret: Zarkon could very well twist this revelation to his advantage to keep Lotor in line.

One thing's for certain, Lotor would drink and break wine goblets a LOT more.

I don't think my argument makes sense anymore

Yeah, he would do more than drink & throw wine goblets. And he would luv the opportunity to hurl one over at Zarkon. Especially after he done it to him.

In the Season 3 episodes before Lotor makes the discovery, Zarkon & Haggar had put on the act & made the neccessary cover ups, so Lotor would'nt find out his true heritage & past. They did this in the similar way Hordak & Shadow Weaver did with keeping it from Adora, except Shadow Weaver used magic to control her. Whereas, Lotor grows up on Doom thinking that Doom was where he came from.

Lotor knew of his Mother when she would raise him during infancy & preschool years. His Mother never told him his true heritage, because he was not developed enuff to understand it all. There came a time when Lotor was only 5 & grew ill enuff where he had to be in care of a nurse. His sickness caused by Haggar's magic, so Zarkon & Haggar would carry out the murder of his Mother by simply poisoning her. His Mother dies in her sleep & is disposed of by Zarkon. Lotor goes back to the chambers only to find his Mother gone & is told by Zarkon & Haggar that she escaped, leaving him behind, cuz she didn't want him. In the "Sleeping Princess," episode, the dream he has is of her Mother being murdered & carried away by Zarkon. However Allura was in the dream due to the fact she reminded him of her.

I'm at the part where Lotor & this twin sister who has found him make the discovery. Even before he made the discovery, but upon finding, he leaves the Doom Empire & sides with the Voltron force.

Yeah, but Lotor tried to poison him WAAAAAYYYYY before that. If I tried to poison my POPS: Hello, prison! If all he did was throw something at my head, wow, I should try to poison someone EVERY week. C'mon, Lotor gets off pretty easy.

BTW, why does it need to be covered up? I was alluding to that in my post. I'm curious as to why.

Hey, that's what makes the whole plot of it interesting. Something of interest has to be added to the series.

Episode 83 is within the Season 3 era of Voltron, which doesn't really exist except in Iris' fanfiction. Which of course, means that anything contained within those episodes really can't be used to explain anything in canon, and can only be used for entertainment purposes.

Of course, most feel the same way about V3D, even though it was an officially licensed show.

You just made two completely diametric plot points that equate a gigantic plot hole and lapse of logic here. If Zarkon has biological sons (which I'm SURE he'd keep tabs on if he was desperate enough to kidnap a freaking heir in your synopses), why the heck is Lotor the Crown Prince? If Zarkon has children of his, why care about Lotor who clearly offers nothing to his father anymore on account of his repeated failures and coups. Please don't say because he's hot, because that argument is getting REALLY old. Zarkon doesn't care about looks, I think that's fairly obvious. It's cool that you want to expand the storyline (I don't think WEP will buy anything from any single one of us, you alluded to this line of thinking in a distant post), but the original show had a slew of plotholes, we really don't need any more. This isn't interesting, it's contrived. I don't watch soap operas and stuff like that, so this kind of stuff is not compatible with me and I'm sure with others. I'm not saying you have to care about my personal tastes, but that doesn't change the fact that it's not the greatest of plot devices, especially since you counter-indicate it with other sons (oh and way to call the other siblings "brats" as though "poor" Lotor was not given the best of everything being the Crown Prince and having a harem and stuff, no, he isn't a brat at all in this scenario).

I know some fans have done the reformed!Lotor thing and I've enjoyed their takes, but I've gotta say, Iris, you've milked it dry in my eyes while laying it on too thick. I'm a Z fan, but I don't post massive quantities of stuff about him because I'm not going to convert anyone, nor do I want to. I have seen the Daddy Dearest routine a trillion times since I joined this fandom eons ago, when dinosaurs roamed the Web. It's fine that you dislike most of the Doomites and don't like Zarkon, fine, I get it. I got it 100 posts ago. You like the idea of a Reformed!Lotor, got that, too. You aren't going to convert anyone here, so please stop trying. If anything, you may be turning people OFF of Lotor. I have to be honest: you're killing me, you're freaking killing me, Iris. I've been trying to be nice and hint and try to extract conversation out of your posts, but it's not being reciprocated well, so now I just feel like what's good for the goose is good for the gander. No one would like it if I posted every thread centered around Zarkon twice a day for over a month.

I'm happy that you're a Lotor fan, and you are enthusiastic about it, but it's time for some restraint and a bit more logic. If you want constructive criticism for your stuff, we're a community here, we'll give to to you, but it seems even when you've asked for it in the past, you disregard it completely.
