What I mean is, what if King Zarkon had been killed, and Lotor's mother had to be the queen of Doom by herself? Do you think Lotor would be so hell bent in trying to kidnap Princess Allura as his own? If he still wanted to kidnap Allura, would his motivation for doing so be any different? Or do you think Lotor would be a complete freak and have a secret crush on his mother?

Any extra theories, opinions and discussions totally welcome.

In Voltron, Lotor was just horny for a hot blonde, so yeah, I think he would still have gone running after Allura, regardless of who his parent was. In Golion, Sinclaine's suffering from a total case of Oedipus complex brought on by his dear ol' mama's death, so my leaning would be toward no. But since you're asking about Voltron/Lotor,... Thing is, you see that dream of his where he's running toward a woman who he thinks is Allura in Voltron, and it looks like someone different, but it's not quite explained that the other woman is his mom... It seems pretty sloppy how that's handled (gee, what a surprise). My understanding is that in Golion, it's very explicit that he knows he's being haunted by his mother's memory but is trying to ignore what he's seeing in the dream... Anyone who's seen the Golion, any thoughts on this?

Anyway... Lotor just strikes me as being a horny little freak with a fetish for blondes. If Freud was right, we seek out qualities of our parents in our mates, so it'd only be logical that Lotor would go after a woman who would resemble his mother to some degree, whether his mom's dead or alive... Would he be so hell bent on kidnapping her? Yeah. That's just how he is. He isn't exactly up on the etiquette of dating.

That's how I see it as well, Cowgirl. Lotor's mother wasn't mentioned in Voltron, so even though we know that's who the dream woman they call Allura is supposed to be in Golion, technically by Voltron canon that's Allura.

My personal interpretation (meaning, not something pulled directly from canon but also not directly contradicted by it either) is that Lotor sees in Allura qualities that remind him of his mother as he remembers her, which explain the changes in the dream Allura's appearance. I don't think he's so much attracted to his mother as that he seeks out women who have qualities that he associates with being nurtured and cared for as a child. Since Allura is kind and gentle, and has a physical resemblance to his mother, he finds himself drawn to her because that's what he thinks of as an ideal.

If Lotor's mother was still around and it was Zarkon that was gone, I think Lotor's ambitions for the throne would be dependent upon what her personality type was. If she bossed him around as much as Zarkon does, I think he'd be looking for a wife that wasn't anything like her and be thinking of ways to get her out of the picture much like he does dear old Dad. If she was demure, let him have his way, and pretty much let him run the show (especially if it was a case where she had married into the royalty of Doom and was acting more as a regent until Lotor could come of age and assume the throne), he might be chasing a woman just like her because he'd think that's what a wife and queen should be like. So if Allura fit the bill, he'd definitely still be obsessed with her.

I definitely agree with Cheezey, cuz Lotor still had luv for Allura. However if he'd been raised by his mother, then he would've learned other methods of winning her heart than he did being raised by Zarkon. I wished the series would've explored Lotor's mother more, which would've definitely fit well where the series left off.

I'm with Iris, Lotor could have learned to behave human if he was raised by his mother. Two notable changes that would have occurred, if Zarkon had been killed:

1) Doom probably wouldn't be an evil, megalomaniacal planet without Zarkon at the helm.

2) That said, Doom probably wouldn't be at war with Arus, so Lotor would actually have a chance with Allura.

Well, that's assuming that his mom was a nice human... for all we know, she could have been a raging beeyatch... I mean, yeah, Lotor's got happy memories of her. But still...

Or should I say that Sinclaine has good memories of her??

Sincline should've been another son of Zarkon's instead of Lotor's counterpart on Golion. It would've reminded me of the "Good Son" movie more.

I think if Sincline's character were to have been more part of Lotor's in Voltron (minus all the guts and gore) I think Lotor would have come off more of a fierce warrior like his clone was against Keith.

Even though the clone lost in the end, he technically beat Keith handily.

Bettcha thought you'd never live to see the day I'd admit Keith lost in anything, did'ja?

But alas, the match decidedly went to Lotor's clone, and had the bomb Keith planted not have gone off when it did, Voltron would be needing a new Commander.

I have no problems with your Mary-Sue if cannon supports it.

The cannon supports about 180 pounds if fired correctly.

Lotor: Hey, Keith. What's that Twisted Sister song?

Keith: "Come on feel the noise"?

Lotor: No...the other one... that's Quiet Riot.

Keith: "I wanna rock"?

Lotor: Okay! *WHACK*

LOL Keith clearly ain't a heavy metal fan... "Come On Feel The Noise" is by Quiet Riot.

Granted, I actually only know that because I've watched way too much VH1 in the past Wink

Aw I think the Twisted Sister singer is kind of cute. Not as cute as Boy George or the picture below though.
