Allegedly, Lotor's mother, who supposedly looked like Princess Allura, was murdered by Lotor's father and Lotor suffers from Oedipus complex -- unconscious feelings swirling around the desire to possess the parent of the opposite sex and eliminate the parent of the same sex. We enter a whole new level of sick when you consider that Lotor raped poor Princess Romelle because Romelle resembles Pricess Allura who resembles Lotor's dead mother.

Well, if you want to quibble (and I love to quibble, heh heh) they never say in Voltron that Allura looks like Lotor's mother. That was canon for Golion, but not Voltron. In the dream sequence and flashbacks that feature her, Voltron calls the woman that was Sincline's mother Allura. It is pretty widely accepted fanon that Allura looks like Lotor's mother, however.

For the official on-the-books record, in the original Japanese GoLion! episode in which Prince Lotor's/Sincline's witch casts a sleeping spell on Princess Allura/Fala, it is CLEARLY stated that Lotor/Sincline sees his mother's face in Allura's/Fala's face. The prince's Oedipus complex is undeniable when the prince admits he confuses Princess Allura with his mother. Talk about an interesting cartoon!

The Oedipus Complex is more common that people think. That's why a lot of girls who have alcoholic fathers end up marrying an alcoholic guy and that also happens with children from abusive parents. Most of them (not all) end up entering abusive relationships when they're older. It's a repetitive conduct in humans.

Even though this is a cartoon, this story plot has influences from real life, as any story that a writer wants to create. The best stories are those that are true life based. Because people relate to them. That's why Lotor's character will always be more interesting than the others. Because a lot of people can relate to the Oedipus Complex.

Long live the Doomites!!

The guy's got Narcissistic Personality Disorder, at most.

Although, I do have to say, this diagnosing Lotor crap... I just keep thinking...

For s**t's sake, people, IT'S A TV SHOW, it ain't that deep!!! (And if you don't mean to make like it's that deep, for the love of Pete, just put a damn Wink at the end of what you're saying, like Cheezey. I mean, really, it's just getting scary. I feel like someone's gonna come busting outta nowhere saying that Alfor's the messiah next.)

But I thought Alfor was the messiah... Wink

Narcassistic Personality Disorder is being phased out and regrouped under borderline personality disorder (which is engendering more developmental and adaptation). He strikes me more of the classic, easy to go against evil psychopath that initially presents a charming front. Although does have grandiose features and low empathy - writers do not include mood cycles with their stories.

Other than that, classify him as an evil ass, but lately and especially working with some of my clients... Lotor just seems a bit... well... wouldn't think women would be his first choice.

Allura floating away on Keith's watch? Not going to happen.

I used to wonder if the reason Lotor preferred Allura to Romelle was because he saw Allura first. Which still didn't make much since. After watching Golion, Horneva (Haggar) revealed to Sincline (Lotor) that his mother was from Altea (Arus). My guess is that Sincline's mother was a great great aunt of Fala (Allura). Perhaps she was his mother's restless reincarnated spirit. Maybe he was able to pick up on that on some subconscious level.

I lean towards the believe that he wants what he can't have. And as some have said, once he tires of her, she'll get tossed aside. However the Oedipus Complex theory from Golion is intriguing.
