I know people are sick of me touching base on this subject, but I always wondered what Lotor saw in Allura?

He could've had any Princess or Queen in the galaxy, but oh no, he would rather chase after some whimpy little girl who cries everytime he comes around.

I think at the end of the series, the reasons he wanted to be with Allura was not because of beauty, but he admired her personality & so badly wanted to be with such an innocent girl.

Here she shoots his butt down & he never gets the pic. I always thought they would be a great couple, but he goes about it so stupidly. He should just back off & date every woman drooling over him & rub it in her face.

So the main question if anybody can answer is what did Lotor see in Allura?

I think you nailed it on the head, Iris. She was beautiful and gutsy. I think he was also turned on by her resistance and the chase involved, though.

I say it was the fact that she absolutely refused him every time.

He was a prince of a powerful Empire. No one said no to Lotor and got away with it. The fact that she said "no" every time to him just fueled him to want to "conquer" her.

How many rulers in Earth's history has done that? Hell, how many normal males have you met that do that?

He refuses to be beaten by a little, "pretty princess."

Other than the fact that she looked almost exactly like his mother?

It was the chase, like KBL and Cowgirl said. If she had just said 'yes', he probably would've just thrown her away like any other harem girl. But she kept on saying no, refusing him after every attempt. This girl's will could not be broken, and I think that's why he wanted her so much.

Newbie, hoorah! Will put signature when I have time to make something witty and/or pretty.

Throughout the whole series, I noticed Lotor's motives changed.

At first, it was to add her to his harem collection, then his possessiveness, and maybe he just wanted somebody who would be easier to control.

In the second season though, I then noticed less possessiveness & genuine feelings. That was after the Dinner & Show episode. Let's just say Lotor was stupid.

His feelings then shown that he really cared about her toward the end of the series. He wasn't going about chasing Allura like he had before. Why? Well, I think it was due to the fact Ms. Queen Merla came in the picture & put him in his place.

You know, Lotor was never consistent. He wanted Allura and yet when they were fighting, and he nearly destroyed Voltron, he showed no concern for her physical welfare.

Season two had different writers though, so they made him softer I think.

I have the Red Lion tin set and got through the 52nd episode -- but I haven't watched Season Two yet. I'm a little scared to, I don't know why. At the time I loved those episodes but thinking back they make me cringe.

I think he was so much relishing the moments where he nearly destroyed Voltron that he forgot about Allura.

Season 2 was tight. The bad part about is that there weren't enuff episodes & poor ending. Episode 72; "Breaking Up On Doom," just doesn't pan out well with the last bunch of episodes.

Lotor had a temper as wide as the Grand Canyon. If the moment suited him, and if Allura was being contrary to his plans, he wouldn't hesitate to blast Voltron, even though it might mean her demise as well.

Then, as Honerva pointed out, there were times when Lotor would want the Princess isolated and taken prisoner if possible. Of course, Keith and the other guys wouldn't let that happen. They would protect her with their lives, and for Keith, it nearly came that.

Lotor's obsession for Allura lasts as long as his ego will allow it, I believe. And I further believe that his love for her would last just as long.

Once he tired of Allura, he'd get rid of her too, just like he got rid of Romelle.

I hate that episode. I really, really do.

And Princess, yeah, I think you're right about Lotor's ego. You can't properly love someone else if you're selfish.

I think Merla would've really shortened Lotor's ego using her telepathic powers to control his butt.

Also, Lotor's personality seems to change from time to time. I wonder why?

Lotor suffered from narcissim.
Allura was an object he wanted, but could never have, therefore she both acted as the driving force behind his anger. His relationship with his mother is interesting, having both maternal and paternal role models the Prince ironically comes from a "family" of sorts. Although their ideas of showing it to him are not what could be contrived as appropriate, in a bizzare way it's there. Thus, Lotor although selfish, has the ability to try and work through his internal conflicts.

Ironically, had Lotor only experienced hate, and belittlement he could have come out a lot worse than what he is portrayed in the story.

Regarding a "harem" what good is it, when it's free? Lotor desired Allura because she was more than just an object of pleasure, and more than just a "Princess", I'm sure he had loads of "Princesses".... she was independent. She didn't need him, but he needed her.

thank you, I'm flattered you think so.

I'm not sure if I was just repeating what others have said already regarding the Lotor/Allura relationship, and my reply was rather abstract....

but thanks

LadyA does have good insight. Lotor in my opinion from watching the whole series was nothing, a confused, trouble young man.
This due to the fact he kept wanting her & there being episodes where he nearly blasted Voltron, along with his obsession.

And not to make fun of Mental Illness, but Lotor probably had BiPolar or Split Personality.

I don't recall hearing his character described that way before, is what I meant by insight. Wink
